Our scandinavian four-member-family with teenagers visited Maurituis for the first time just a week ago in feb 2013. When you live up north you might miss some sunshine and warmth during winter! We have visited Canary Islands (not our cup of tea), Madeira Island (beautiful ,but very astable weather in feb.) and Dubai (we liked it, but at the moment that part of the world is not inviting). It would be Mauritius this time! Far away but let's try.
We desided to choose the northern part of the island, Grand Baie, because we had heard that there is more action (we are not standard all inclusive travellers). We chose the hotel firstly based on location and after the location tried to find a good hotel.
The location was great because you could walk to Grand Baie. The hotel itself was good. The service was good - maybe even more then good (absolutely nothing to complain), the breakfast was good (we had only breakfast and had our meals in town), the standard rooms were good, the apartments in the village were spacious but with no view (so changed the apartment to two standard rooms during our 10 days stay), pool area was very beautiful and we loved it! The beach was good for sunbathing, but if you love to walk along the beach line, this is not your hotel. I also missed the open sea view ( this really is a bay). The water in the bay is still and allowes you to swim and paddle (very good for small children) but I missed the openness and endlessness of the beautiful turquoise see view.
Our children would prefer to be 'on line' all the time if possibel; wifi was not woking well. There were organized activities by the hotel enough for us (we don't even need those too much) and it was easy to catch a catamaran trip on the beach (the catamaran trip is highly recommendable!)
Summary: clean, good service, good brakfast, good basic rooms, beautiful pool area, good beach. We missed the view! Next time visiting Mauritius we'll head to the southwest of the Island, La Morne.
