Our scandinavian four-member-family with teenagers visited Maurituis for the first time just a week ago in feb 2013. When you live up north you might miss some sunshine and warmth during winter! We have visited Canary Islands (not our cup of tea), Madeira Island (beautiful ,but very astable weather in feb.) and Dubai (we liked it, but at the moment that part of the world is not inviting). It would be Mauritius this time! Far away but let's try.

We desided to choose the northern part of the island, Grand Baie, because we had heard that there is more action (we are not standard all inclusive travellers). We chose the hotel firstly based on location and after the location tried to find a good hotel.

The location was great because you could walk to Grand Baie. The hotel itself was good. The service was good - maybe even more then good (absolutely nothing to complain), the breakfast was good (we had only breakfast and had our meals in town), the standard rooms were good, the apartments in the village were spacious but with no view (so changed the apartment to two standard rooms during our 10 days stay), pool area was very beautiful and we loved it! The beach was good for sunbathing, but if you love to walk along the beach line, this is not your hotel. I also missed the open sea view ( this really is a bay). The water in the bay is still and allowes you to swim and paddle (very good for small children) but I missed the openness and endlessness of the beautiful turquoise see view.

Our children would prefer to be 'on line' all the time if possibel; wifi was not woking well. There were organized activities by the hotel enough for us (we don't even need those too much) and it was easy to catch a catamaran trip on the beach (the catamaran trip is highly recommendable!)

Summary: clean, good service, good brakfast, good basic rooms, beautiful pool area, good beach. We missed the view! Next time visiting Mauritius we'll head to the southwest of the Island, La Morne.

Room Tip: If you prefere some view, apartments are not for you!

I stayed her for a short break whilst in Mauritius in August 2012 with my husband and 3 sons (age 7,13 & 17)From the beginning of our holiday at reception the staff were welcoming, helpful and keen to please.the hotel is in lovely area next to a beautiful well kept beach.there are plenty of facilities on the complex to do to occupy all our family indeed we didn't not really need to leave the complex and had plenty to do .we stayed all inclusive which is to be recommended especially with children whom are always wanting drinks and snacks.we stayed in 2 superior rooms which were adjoined and had plenty of room and were situated facing the beach which was lovely.the beds were huge!as was the bathroom in which all of our family could of had a shower together if we wanted as it was so huge.the food was plentiful-the only downside was that 4 of us are vegetarian and these dishes were a bit repetitive namely Pizza and tomatoe pasta (although did have loads of salad varieties) but when we mentioned this to the restaurant manager he was very keen to accommodate and make some additional and different food we may like so I wish I had mentioned it earlier in our stay.my youngest attended the kids club which he loved and was able to try out water skiing and water polo with children his age which he thoroughly enjoyed.he would check out which activities he wanted to attend from the daily programme advertised and go then.we shall be back to le Mauricia.

Room Tip: Would recommend the superior room for space

I booked Le Mauricia for my honeymoon and I have to say it turned out to be a dream honeymoon because of my stay here. From the time we arrived till when we left we were treated with the best hospitality one can receive from a resort of this kind. The food and drink were excellent. We were on the all-inclusive package which I recommend that everyone go for as you can continuously enjoy over and over again, all the lovely food / drink the resort has to offer. Even though there were hundreds of people staying at the resort, we were addressed by our name by all staff that served us. How amazing is that!!!

I will definetley go back to Le Mauricia again to be treated like royalty. Well done to the staff and management. You'll really have created a paradise on the most beautiful island.

Room Tip: Try and go for the Superior rooms. The added space and benefit of being on the ground floor is a plu...

My husband and I have just returned from a fantastic week at the Le Mauricia Hotel. If I had any complaints it would be totally trivial. From the time of our arrival, until the morning of our departure we were treated in a friendly, attentative manner. The food was absolutely delicious, with such a large variaty. There is enough activities to keep you busy during the day or you could just relax at the pool or on the beach. The evening entertainment was good. Grand Baie is in walking distance. The total package is sufficient for an awesome holiday. We will definitely be back soon.

My wife and I got married at this hotel on 1st June 2012. The hotel was brilliant, staff were friendly and attentive, and the beach was lovely. The hotel is close enough to Grand Baie that you can walk into the town and look at the bars and shops if you like, but just far enough away to remain quiet and relaxing.

The hotel staff organised almost all of the wedding for us, all we had to do was turn up and say those two words, it could not have gone any smoother. We were even upgraded to the honeymoon suite for our wedding night at no extra cost. The suite is spectacular and features a rooftop pool with private sun loungers, a very large bathroom with his and her's sinks, and a four poster bed, adorned with petals and towel arrangements.

We also booked an excursion through the hotel which was very reasonably priced, it included a whole day with lunch in which we were taken to see the giant tortoises, a tea plantation and a few other activities.

If you want to be close to the hustle and bustle, Le Mauricia is perfectly located. It is within walking distance of a variety of shops and restaurants in Grand Baie which is great if you decide to stay half board or bed and breakfast only. If you want to stay at the resort and relax, it will definitely be cheaper to choose the full board option as the buffet lunch/ dinner is quite expensive as an “add on”.

The rooms are standard with everything you need: towels (perhaps time for new ones), soaps, safe, minibar, etc. The linen is acceptable and the bed ok. I have generally had better in 4 star hotels though.

The beach is lovely looking out on Grand Baie. A lot of the watersports are included in the price which is great. In fact, the resort offers a fair amount of activities to keep you entertained when you need to give your body a break from suntanning.

Le Mauricia, like all the Beachcomber resorts I have been to in Mauritius, is a well oiled machine. If you like big resorts with lots of people (especially during the peak season), activities and buffets, then this will be a perfectly good choice. It has all the trims one would expect from an island resort: beautiful blue pool, palm trees, etc. but it lacks character. If you travel in a big group on holiday, or want a place where you can relax while the kids roam free, you should be satisfied with your choice. If you like something a little more intimate and sophisticated, perhaps consider a couple more options. As far as Beachcomber hotels go, I have enjoyed my stay more at the slightly more expensive Le Victoria.

We stayed at Le Mauricia for 2 weeks in September 2012 and we also got married there. We travelled there with 7 other family members. We didn't really know what to expect when we got there but were blown away with everything. We arrived 3 days before the big day and had a meeting with the hotel manager and the wedding coordinator Guylaine who gave us all our options. We were surprised at the amount of choices we had when discussing our flowers and our wedding photos. We were able to choose from 3 different style of bouquets, the types of flowers and the colour scheme. We opted to pay extra for the flower arch which we personally felt made the wedding setting look even more beautiful. I would highly recommend this! Our wedding pictures were out of this world. We were able to choose from two photographers and were shown examples of weddings they had taken pictures at. We went for the more traditional style of photos which perfectly captured our big day from start to finish. We were even able to pick how we wanted our photgraphs displayed and opted for the photo book which looks amazing. For anyone planning on getting married at this hotel I would highly recommend contacting Guylaine before you get there to introduce yourself and ask any questions not matter how small they may seem. Both her and the manager were so helpful and couldn't do enough for us. I have to mention the lady who did my hair and make up as she was amazing! She was so attentive and made me look just as I had hoped I would. In the evening we opted to have a meal in the A La Carte restaurant as part of the all inclusive package. The staff in there were lovely and gave us exceptional service. They even put our names onto our bread rolls along side the wedding favours I had taken. We stayed in the honeymoon suite which we felt was worth every penny. We were made to feel like royalty throughout our day and it was more than we could have ever imagined. I would highly recommend this hotel to those who are looking to get married in Mauritius. As for the rest of our holiday, we couldn't fault anything. Wonderful staff, location, food and the list goes on!
