You should read this review until the end!

We spent 9 days in Mauritius and booked a bungalow from Ocean Villas due to its near proximity to Grand Bay center. The hotel area itself is nice and next to the small beach. The bungalow was pretty ok with a lot of space, even one bedroom's ceiling was leaking. We had a half board with breakfast and dinner. Food was ok, nothing special though, but for example dairy products were kept in warm conditions for hours. It shouldn't be a big deal for the hotel to store food in proper temperature.

Now the most important part... All room rates were given in euros as well as the confirmation. When you book the accommodation you have to pay 50 % and when you check-in you pay the balance. In a web page, confirmation and a receipt all charges are written in euros but the hotel charges still everything in Mauritian rupees with their poor currency conversion rate. For us this meant 6 % higher prices for total accommodation, than agreed on. After returning home and realizing this, I contacted the hotel. No reply. I have since then tried to contact them three times asking for a refund but no one responses to my email.

I am very disappointed and realize the hotel does this in purpose. I found similar reviews warning about this. So folks, if you book this hotel, make sure they charge you correctly!

My family of 3, husband, daughter and myself decided to spend Xmas in Maurities. We are not fond of confined hotels, and prefer to enjoy local experiances rather than eating all meals in the hotel. We booked a villa, and where thrilled with our accomodation. 3 double bedrooms,2 bathrooms, lounge, full kitchen and lovely patio, delicious aircon more than filled our needs. We opted for the breakfast only option, which I would recomend. Breakfast is served on the outdoor area, and offers both English and Continental choices. Delicious croissants and baguettes will be fondly remembered. The staff are always helpful and quick to resolve any issues that might arise. The complex has its own private beach, complete with deck chairs, offering free water sports with very helpful staff, 2 swimming pools and a not too good cafe for last minute purchases. The Hotel is situated on the main road, which is ideal to catching the local buss service. Talking of which, the trasport in Maurietius is very cheap, punctual and freindly staff to assist when necessary. We had hired a car for a day, which we returned (not a very roadworthy one) and decided to stick to public transport. Besides, drivers do tend to drive very fast and at times hair raising. Much better to sit back and enjoy the scenery. Will deffinetly stay at Ocean Villas again, and would recomend Grand Baie as a good area if you want to be close to all the action, like we wanted. The Villas where about 2km from town center.

Room tip: Ask for privacy as I wouldnt have like the rooms near the swimming pool or reception area.

Just about t to end my holiday at Ocean villas.
It's been great the hotel is very good, like a few other travelers that have been here before there where one or two issues with the staff but after speaking to the management there's we're sorted out.
The food has been very good and plenty of choice at each meal.
The location is great with a lot to do all around,we have stayed in the private selection of the hotel which is very quiet and relaxing.
The wind does blow almost every day on this side of Grand baie but is a please tell relief from the heat.
The hotel overlooks the bay and the fireworks on New Years was amazing.
Thanks to all the staff and look forward to returning.

The accommodation (3 bed bungalow) was good, very clean and one must pay the extra for air conditioning to survive the heat. The shower in the second bathroom was not usable, the water flowed out into the living areas. The rooms close to the bar and dining area gets very noisy at night. The live music every night was good. The breakfasts were good, with sufficient variety. The dinners were mostly good. It is not a swimming beach, lots of rocks and broken coral. You would be able to go in with swimming shoes. The swimming pool is nice, however, most days there was a lot of chemicals floating in the pool. The Jacuzzi did not work. The 3 times a week water sports as indicated on the web site was not available as there was no skipper. Was disappointment with the payment arrangements, they quoted in Euros, when it was time to pay they converted to Mauritian rupees, then the conversion to the currency of my country.

Stayed in one of the "new" apartments. These are some units in the hotel which were sold off to private persons who rent them out. Cockaroaches, blocked shower, unbearable loud noise due to it being right next to the nightly entertainment. Very windy side of the bay. Drinks at pool bar the most expensive experienced on the island -Phoenix beer even more expensive than an upmarket hotel down the beach.
