We have just returned from this Hotel and overall really enjoyed it there. There was some aspects of it that was worthy of 4 stars and some that deserved a 3 star.
The location is fantastic, our room overlooked the beach it was a large room with every thing you could want and the beach was beautiful and quite small and private which was perfect.
The staff on the whole was very friendly and eager to please, certain members were really lovely and attentive.
The one thing that we didnt enjoy so much was the breakfast and evening meal set up, there was as such no one direction in which to collect your food so we experienced people pushing in front of you or colliding into each other, it would of been better to follow a simple route to of avoided this. The lunch time meals was much better as you chose your food and it was waitered to you and we found this lovely with a nice choice of food.
We had a lovely lady called Neha who looked after our room so well and efficiently a special thank you to her.
If you are thinking of going to mauritius then this hotel is well worth staying at.

Room Tip: We upgraded our room when booking, we was on the second floor of the seperate building overlooking the beach it was perfect.

Dear Linda,

I would like to thank you for staying at Merville Beach during your stay in Mauritius.

I am delighted to read your very nice comments and is happy to see that you were overwhelmed by the hotel location.

Thank you also for praising our team members; particularly Néha to whom I shall pass on your kind remembrance.

I feel very sorry for the inconvenience you faced during breakfast and dinner time. It would have been such a pleasure for us to serve you at table only if you had let us know your constructive comment. The good news is that the Food and Beverage Manager is working on reorganizing the buffets presentation so as to ease the process flow, particularly when the hotel is running at high occupancy.

Until we have the pleasure of welcoming you back to our shores, do rest assured of our hospitality at all times.

Tony Duval.

A 1970's 3star hotel offering excellent service, good food and entertainment.
We had a ground floor, beachfront room in the Garden Court, which was perfectly located for us. Our room was large with all the usual amenities (air-con, ceiling fan, TV, phones etc) The bathroom was large with a shower over the bath and two handbasins. The only minor point was the tiling and general decoration of the room was dated and a bit tired. Had the handbasins been painted at some point?? - in need of upgrading. I suspect it was the original bathroom from the 1970's. There was a wide set of french doors leading out onto a covered terrace with a pair of sunbeds, a table and two chairs. The locks on the door were a bit basic but there was a security guard close by 24/7. In front of the terrace was a grass garden area leading to steps down to the white sand beach. It was lovely to lie in the sun on the grass area, or on our terrace and be able to walk down for a swim without having to secure our room, find a sunbed and carry towels etc with us. There was a shower on the beach and a footwash so no worries about salty towels. The gardens around abounded with lots of brightly coloured birds.
Out of the 'back door' was a covered walkway that ultimately lead to reception and the restaurant/bar area through a lush garden of mango trees, a pond full of koi carp and lush large leaved climbers and bushes. Every night after dark, the frog chorus started and was deafening when walking back to your room, however when you closed your door it cut out the noise efectively so no problem with sleeping.
The bar restaurant area was parly in the open around the pool so choice of table for evening dinner depended on wether a shower of rain was forecast. (often happens during cyclone season) Food was varied and was a usual buffet with meat frying stations as recipes needed. The bar staff were very friendly and very helpful giving advice re cocktails etc. Bear in mind there were no 'cheap' drinks here, a carafe of wine or bottles of the local 'Pheonix' beer were probably the best value.
A big plus for this hotel was the free watersports. There was free water skiing, with lessons if needed, free glass bottom boat, free snorkelling trips out to the reef plus pedaloes, kayaks and sailing dinghies. The staff at the boathouse were very helpful, partiularly, Fazal (not sure if this name is correct) who fixed my own broken snorkel for me.
Grand Baie takes about 20mins to walk from the hotel along a main road with few lengths of footpath so care needed when walking. Grand Baie was brash and busy and inundated with taxis. I held very little appeal for us since the hotel had everything we wanted.
A gala dinner on New Years Eve was very good with a magician, two bands, fire eaters on the beach followed by a spectacular fireworks display to follow.
We enjoyed our holiday very much due in no small part to the attentiveness and friendliness of all the staff including the managers and Mr Tony Duval personally.

Room Tip: We had room 510 but any room on the end of the garden court would be best

Where do I start! From start to finish this hotel was fantastic! Cannot fault this hotel! The staff can’t do enough for you, they make you feel very welcome and go out of their way to make sure your stay is perfect. The food is lovely as are the drinks! Must try cocktails are mango Coloda and Miss you's! We are missing them already!
As we were on our honeymoon we got upgraded to beach view room which was very clean and spacious and we were greeted with a fruit platter and a bottle of sparkling wine which was enjoyed on our terrace!
The beach is something you see on a postcode! Very clean and plenty of sunbeds we spent most of our time on the beach!
Our evenings were spent on the terrace watching the sunset, stunning! enjoying a few cocktails before our evening meal which are themed each evening to Indian, Chinese, bbq and our favourite Italian which did disappoint.
1 staff member that we need to mention and sadly didn’t actually chat to him till near the end of our holiday was Edley, what a lovely guy! And although we didn’t take part in the aqua fit we would certainly recommend as its looks it’s great fun!!!
The boat house is worth a visit and no doubt you will be greeted by Faz who is a legend! Lovely man! Lots of things to do from there, our favourite were snorkelling!
Will be recommending Merville beach to everyone and will be returning!

Dear Laura,

I would like to thank you and your husband for staying with us last August on the special occasion of your honeymoon.

I am delighted to see that the free upgrade was greatly appreciated as well as the services and facilities offered. We all appreciate your comments for which we feel really touched and motivated to do even better.

Thank you also for appraising our team members, particularly Edley and Fazal. They were both very pleased to hear about your appreciation. The whole team take pride in delivering an unbelievable experience, as for Merville, “Making each moment matter in Helping our guests celebrate life” is an obsession.

We look forward to welcoming you back again and to make you rediscover our mango colada while contemplating the spectacular sunset.

Relatively small and relaxed hotel with very friendly and service-minded staff. Excellent beach and services, good food all the time. Perfect location close to town. Only problem, the beds in standard room was very hard, might cause problems if you have a bad back.

Dear Johan,

Thank you for staying at Merville Beach during your stay in Mauritius.

I am delighted to see that you were amazed by the hotel location and would like to thank you also for your appreciation towards our team members.

I feel really sorry if the bed in the room was uncomfortable but should you have let us know about it; our housekeeper would have been pleased to give you a softer mattress.

I trust to have the pleasure of welcoming back to our shores in a not too far future.

In the meantime; do rest assured of our hospitality at all times.

Yours Sincerely,

Tony Duval.
