“cheap pants!”
Review of Grand Baie Bazaar

Grand Baie Bazaar

Definitely not high quality but I got 10 pairs of mens pants - Louis Viton, Diesel and Calvin Klein (just make sure you dont buy the Calvin Klain brand!)- clearly they are all originals......
These I could have got for 1000 MUR but relented at 1200 - I know not original but M&S pants are £10 a pair!!! - I got 10 pair for about £24
T shirt (Diesel) for 200 MUR and paid the same for a pair of sunglasses to use on the beach
If you can stand being dragged into every shop you pass then it's good fun - there is a lot of old tat as well though - they're trying to earn a living
Worth a visit

This was my 7th visit to Mauritus and I always visit the Bazaar in Grand Baie. Some of the people there are very friendly. I found that there prices were a lot higher this time in March when I went than in November last year. They often start at the highest price they can and eventually bring it down for you if you bargain nicely with them. Not all of them are willing to bargain. I do notice with some of the stuff, they try to rip you off on the price.
Try to first bargain with prices if you want to purchase something.

The markets has a lot of stalls, you can get lost with time there. They have some nice qualit clothing there at better prices. There are shops on the main road in Grand baie that will sell the same stuff that the market does, but the shops are much more expensive. So first shop around at the market, cause you are more likely to get a better price there. I always make a stop at the market.

What a great find! Spent half my money for the day at the first shop. The friendliest salesmen and women i've come across in my travels. I could probably bargained more, however the same goods were over 3 times more expensive on the main roads and shopping centers.
One of the souvenirs bought for 300rs were 1000rs at a boutique shop.

The Grand Baie Bazaar is a shopper's paradise, but not for the faint hearted. Buyer beware! You need to be prepared for people urging you to buy at every shop. My advice is to go through the whole market before deciding to buy anything. Some of the shops immediately outside of the market are also very good. There is a tailor at the right hand far corner of the bazaar who was able to make up clothing from a sample I gave to him, at a very reasonable price. But ... you have to have some patience getting it - it's not a same day service. This is a must-do if you want to get a real feel for Mauritius.
