I'm always skeptic toward Italian food abroad but I have to say this was an excellent choice.
The place is located toward the end of Grand Baie right opposite to the beach. It has only outside dining and a few tables so reservation is mandatory, since it's always full (we went in low season and while every other restaurant in Grand Baie was dead, Botteghita was packed!).
The cook is Italian and he cooks real Italian food: no mixes or weird compromises. The usually have a menu of the day with a couple of first courses and a couple of seconds and a salads and pizza menu.
The cold cuts platter was fantastic: everything imported from Italy and very fresh plus the nice discovery of a super fresh burrata produced daily by and Italian expat right in Mauritius. The main were excellent: home made ravioli and tasty dressings. Fanciful desserts and an excellent wine list (they also work as an after dinner wine bar). The Italian owners walk though the tables to chat with every client, making sure they are enjoying the dinner, so the service is very attentive with the touch of live music played by the nice Richard on his guitar.
It's simple but very welcoming and cozy: no surprise it's such a success. If you like Italian food try it: you'll find it as good as any excellent trattoria in the center of Rome or Florence!
