Stayed at this place as a last resort since we did not have any hotel booked for the last 5 days of our trip. And since we were desperate, we did not even read this hotel up on TripAdvisor, and travelled down south from Mon Choisy where we were staying previously. I will say overall its still quite ok, not exactly what I would have liked, but given our circumstances it was really the best.

In terms of location wise, the hotel was situated in the corner of Blue Bay down south. It is rather near to the airport (10~15mins) and near Mahebourg where there is a day bazaar and you can get cheap food. However, it is quite far from everywhere else, except if you are heading near the East Coast where Ile aux Cerfs is. We had to spend around 1h travelling to places like Flic en Flac or Le Morne. The front of the hotel seems OK, but there is really limited parking space (like enough for 10-12 cars for such a huge hotel) and if you park under the trees, you will have to drive your car to car wash as the birds do not choose where to poop on. Reception staff were OK, not particularly friendly. WIFI is strong at the reception and that's it. The WIFI in the rooms are really weak especially during day hours. It gets better around early morning and late in the night. Apparently, this is a known issue to the staff and the bartender I spoke to said it was always like that. So if staying connected is especially important to you, I will advise you to give this hotel a miss.

One of the staff took us to view the rooms we can stay in. The hotel rooms (depending on which category you book) face the swimming pool or the Indian Ocean. We got upgraded to the basement room that faces the Indian Ocean. We were initially offered choice of either the basement or the top floor room. We took the basement one as it seems refurbished and more modern compared to the rooms at the second floor which seemed old, worn out and had a lingering smell. And there was a smell of sewage in the toilet in the second level. The basement room had a door where you could open and access the beach directly. That was nice seeing the sunrise every morning from the convenience of your room.

Room wise, not much amenities. It was basic, they had the safe, fridge, shower amenities. The phone was spoilt and was only replaced 2-3 days after we informed them. Ants were crawling about in our room, but it is inevitable considering the proximity to the beach and grass. The hotel only provided 2 round soaps, and this gel like thingy which I assumed was the body wash. I did not use it anyway. There was TV but channels were limited. My husband was glad because it had football channels. The bed was rather comfy, but the "blanket" they gave us was one thin sheet of covering. It barely kept us warm. Also, since the hotel was situated near the airport, you can hear the occasional sounds of airplanes. And as our room was situated below the dining area, there are sounds of chairs moving in the morning and evening.

Food wise, I found it OK. We were on an all-inclusive package, and entitled to breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner. Did not have the chance to try their lunch as we were always outside. Breakfast was standard but good enough for us. The staff handling the eggs seemed not to understand that I do not want salt and excess oil on my omelette (despite me telling him countless time), and it always came really salty and oily. The service attitude was inconsistent - some good and some bad. It was good that the food items were covered as there were many birds flying around the restaurant. Tea break was usually pancakes with different kinds of toppings. Dinner was OK - The theme changes everyday. There was BBQ grill, Indian (Good!), Seafood (Crabs were not so fresh, but it was the same standard as Le Capitaine, so I guess the seafood in Mauritius generally aren't good). You can get some drinks pre-dinner at the cocktail bar if you wish. Got to mention that the bartenders were mostly friendly and cheerful.

Entertainment: The staff will put a paper on the board stating the planned activities for each day that we were there. There is table tennis, swimming pool (too shallow and dirty), and dance activities. There is free sea activities like glass bottom boat, snorkelling, kayaking but you got to book in advance to enjoy them. Not too sure as we did not have the chance to do any of those as they were fully booked. There is a counter beside the reception where a lady will explain to you the activities available and they can book it for you. Might be a tad more expensive but certainly a convenient option. Also, there is a entertainment session every night daily at the area beside the dining place. But it seems that they only conduct it in French, so we gave it a miss.

Room Tip: Choose the basement rooms where it is quieter and has beach access, wifi seems abit stronger too.

Lovely location ! After that it goes downhill somewhat.....
Our room initially had a couple of things wrong (patio doors very difficult to open and a light above the sink inoperative) but we told reception and the maintenance team were there within minutes and did a good job.
The food is very hit and miss, mostly missing as it seems to be orrientated towards the French, which is a recurring theme as the place is crawling with them and if you do not speak French you will feel left out as very minimal interaction is carried out if you are not one of the white flag wavers.
Evening meal was between 19:30 to 21:30 however if like us you like to eat early you have to put up with the first part of loud French entertainment as the stage for the entertainment is right next to the resteraunt in a big open plan room, entertainment should ideally not start till after the meal has finished.
Hygiene is also another issue as there are a lot of birds especially at breakfast and lunch, didn't bother us but it may put some people off. Another unsavoury thing we saw was people getting food in bare feet.....especially one of the entertainment staff.
The entertainment is quite frankly a joke.....we have been on Spanish holidays with as good if not better and again it is very French...our last night the theme was "comedy club" but we left after 40 minutes as not one single word of English had been spoken (according to a leaflet in the room the main language is English.....hmmmm obviously not !). The hotel is associated with "club Lookéa" which I assume is a French tourist club, they all seem to get orange bands to identify themselves.
We went AI although not all guests were however we had no bands and were constantly being asked our room number for billing.
Most of the bar and waiter/waitress staff were friendly and attentive but as always you always find the odd one or two that just seem to be glum and very abrupt.
The last but one day we had our dressing gowns removed, we spoke to the maid and she said they are instructed to do that, we assume to stop people stealing them (they were available to buy in the lobby shop for €40 each !), although she did give them back to us which was nice.
The blue Bay Area is a lovely setting and great for snorkelling and water activities of which many are provided by the hotel for free (kayaks, canoes, small boat, pedlos etc) however the one day we tried to use a Pedlo the linkage to the rudder came apart, I got us back and told them but no attempt was made to repair it (all it needed was a nut and bolt) which was very disappointing.

The owners / management obviously don't care about what is written on trip advisor as they never respond or reply, a bit of a shot in the foot these days seeing as everyone reads trip advisor before booking......just wish we had (our Cuba trip was cancelled due to hurricane Irma and this was a last minute replacement at considerably more cost).
For a holiday costing this amount of money I expected a lot more and to be perfectly honest would have been more satisfied with 4 weeks in Spain for the same price of 2 weeks in this hotel.

We would revisit the island and most probably the same area (it really is stunning) but would avoid this hotel like the plague.

We booked a room for one night to be close to the airport once we had checked out of our hotel in the North and returned our hire car. We were only there for the afternoon checking in at 2 pm and leaving at 7pm.
I called the hotel reservations to explain that we only were staying for a few hours, but had paid £120 for the night, and asked whether we could check in earlier but were told that this would not be possible.
On arrival, we were disappointed to find that the rooms and balconies were so close to each other that there was no privacy whatsoever.
Music blaring by the pool - something you would expect from a Butlins type resort and not what you would hope to find in a tropical paradise.
Wifi non existent .
Pot plant on the winding staircase a real hazard.
Hotel clean, and hotel staff and porter were very helpful though.
Not a patch on the 3 star hotel we stayed at in the North which cost us £60 per night.

Room Tip: avoid balcony rooms which have no privacy
