What a fabulous place!
Mauritius in general: The country has less poverty than other places we have visited (the Gambia, Cape Verde, parts of the Caribbean). The people are polite and efficient in almost everything they do. They are friendly, but not in that over the top way that some other nationalities use to try to finesse money off you! Tipping is not neccesary for good service.
Hotel location: When I found out how close the hotel is to the airport, I'll admit I was a little worried about the noise. The hotel is only about 2 miles from the airport and near the flight path for planes taking off. At present, the number of flights is fairly limited (perhaps about 10 per day) so unless you really, really hate noise it shouldn't be a problem.
Hotel comfort and cleanliness: Excellent. The hotel is kept spotless and the staff have a knack of cleaning rooms in a totally unobtrusive way. You can pop in and out of your room during the day without seeing the cleaner, but somehow your room just gets done!
Food and drink: Fabulous! The hotel has a french head chef who has put his stamp on the menus of the speciality restaurants, but our favourite dishes were often the local recipes served in the Grand Port buffet restaurant. Drinks are proper branded spirits like Jack Daniels and Baileys and champagne is available by the glass after 6pm.
Beaches: The brochure says there are 3 beaches - there are actually another two very small beaches that make up 5. All are kept scrupulously clean by the hotel's amazing grounds staff. There is a beach cart that provides a free mobile drinks service for the three main beaches.
Blue Bay marine nature reserve: The snorkelling is excellent, although my wife said it didn't match Egypt. The water depth is shallow over much of the bay, so you could theoretically walk/swim to the best snorkelling areas. However, I would not recommend this as a) you will damage coral and b) there is quite a bit of boat traffic in the bay so it could be dangerous. In any case the hotel run free snorkelling and glass bottom boat trips every day.
Watersports: If you don't make full use of the free watersports while you are there, you really will miss out. The local instructors in the boat house are absolutely outstanding. They are knowledgable and most of all patient and helpful. As a result, I learnt to wake board and my wife to water ski in just 3 days. If you have ever even half thought about learning something like this, speak to these guys and I guarantee they will make it happen. In a hotel full of excellent employees, the boat house team still stand out.
Fishing: I took a beachcaster and had a go fishing a team of mackeral feathers off the wild beach with very limited success (I only caught one in about 4 hours of fishing)! Fishing in the marine park is illegal, so if you are going to fish, make sure you are in the right place. If you walk the full length of the hotel's shore frontage, you will find an old sign that tells you where you can fish. I was told that there are heavy fines if you are caught fishing in the wrong place, but this doesn't seem to stop local poachers!

Room Tip: The more expensive rooms that are farther away from the main hotel reception are also slightly further away from the flight path of aircraft from the nearby airport.

This place was above all expectations of myself, my partner and all our guests. The all inclusive really is ALL inclusive! Great food, Drinks, and beautiful location. Best part were the friendly staff! From bar, reception, wedding co-ordinator, even the gardeners. I would highly recommend Shandrani for a wedding with the well organised packages and simplicity of the whole process.

So glad we booked this hotel, it offered everything we wanted and needed. You can do as much or as little as you want and there is something for everyone what with thieir 3 beaches, 5 restaurants and abundance of sports facilities included (golf, waterski, glass bottom boat, snorkelling etc). Real mix of people - few honeymooners but lots more couples / groups / families.
Main Positives - high quality and variety of food, set in blue bay with unbelievable natural coral in abundance, closeness to airport (10 mins away - you hear the odd plane but not disruptive enough to not book this great hotel).
Negatives: evening entertainment was below standard of everything else at hotel, hairdryervin room as powerful as an ant blowing, built on public beach so frequented by beach sellers (although they are very respectful).
All in all an amazing stay and would totally recommend.

Only 10 minutes from the airport this resort has a lot to offer, if fact it offers everything all included in the price. Its not the typical cheap beer wine or spirits either, its proper quality products on offer. With 5 restaurants to choose from including a buffet option the food was top quality and you can order food all day any time at no extra charge. There are some very small extras, for example golf balls if you want to try the 9 hole course, spa is also extra but I think a intro massage is included. Good for families or couples, make sure you book the restaurants and try the Italian, food was delicious and the wine list amazing. watersports are also free like sailing or windsurfing, I think diving is extra and there are fishing excursions which may have an additional fee, but all round a fab place to go.... will certainly go back. get a sea view room with beach access.

My husband and I spent 3 nights at the Shandrani after being transferred from the Paradise Cove Hotel in the North of the island following what we think was an overbooking.
The Paradise Cove was such a lovely hotel that we didn't think that anywhere could match it!
We had a beach front room which was a little on the shabby side, although in a lovely beach side location, however it was the ambience and facilities that wowed us.
Our favourite area was the other side of the 'resort', where the quieter pool, bar and Sirius restaurant were located. The staff were so friendly and obliging and any drink you fancied was available as the hotel is fully all-inclusive.
The food in the restaurants was top quality and there was even a little motorised cart driving along the beach with snacks and drinks (including wine and beer!)
The sports on offer were also excellent, including bike tours, all free of charge.
Would we return to this hotel - most definitely!
