Amazing hotel....would love to go back some day. Had a fabulous time, everything about it was first class and we were totally spoilt from start to finish. Nothing bad to say.....apart from people started reserving beds on the beach earlier and earlier...other than that totally FAB! You won't be disappointed!

Room Tip: We had a priviledge room by the boat house, end room with excellent views. We did ask for a honeymo...

We stayed for two weeks at the hotel on AI with our 8yo daughter. The hotel, in our opinion, offers outstanding value for money. Rooms are spacious and immaculately cleaned; they have an AI mini bar as well. The main restaurant offers excellent buffet choices which are constantly replenished and the Maree restaurant was very good although we would recommend you book for that option as soon as you arrive. You will probably have to wait at least 72 hours to try it out but the speciality nights for Lobster and Steak are well worth the extra cost and there is a very wide children's menu available as well. We did not try the fine dining option but heard positive reports about that. The leisure facilities at the hotel are also very good and the Kid's Club is one of the best we have seen and included activities such as horseriding and water skiing. The hotel is not at all pushy about joining in activities and although there is some attempt to sell spa treatments on occasions it is of a very gentle and subtle nature! The pool and beach areas are also kept immaculately clean and bar service was good throughout to these locations. The hotel has abandoned its towel cards system and although there is a "fair play" policy on reserving sunbeds we would still advise an early arrival if you wish to sit by the pool. The gym was well equipped and, again, has a "fair play" policy on machine usage at busy times. Overall we were delighted with the hotel and would definitely recommend to others.

Room Tip: Ask to have a room away from the service area as this is an early morning issue.

We stayed at the maritim for the first two weeks in August and everything about this hotel really does live up to its billing! We booked with virgin going all inclusive, and flew out direct with air Mauritius which was as pleasent as long haul flights can be. But the moment this holiday truly begins is when you drive through the gates into the beautiful grounds of the hotel, and are then taken into the reception area where the view is quite breath taking.
We were then introduced to some of the staff and asked if we'd like some lunch in the buffet restraunt while they finished getting our room ready, 20 minutes later we were taken to our privilege room which really was perfect. Spacious, clean and modern with a huge bed and bathroom. We were on the ground floor with our patio doors leading out to a garden area with the beach behind, it really is an idealic setting. The room had lots of clothing space, a safe and a mini bar with most of its contents on the all inclusive menu. The room was cleaned daily, the mini bar restocked and towels changed and in the evening they'd come in and prepare the room for you to sleep.
We were really impressed with the food too. We used the bell vue buffet restaurant and la mere on the beach. The chateau looked great but really expensive. There was always lots to choose from and always of a very good quality. Our only critism was that a couple of times at la mere, the service was incredibly slow, to the point that we had to go and let them know that we were still and waiting. But other than this, it was very good. The lobster at la mere was well worth paying a little extra for.
The beach really was lovely. We had read reviews on here about in being to "rocky" and were a little aprehensive but there's no need to be. Yes there are a few rocks and if you go snorkeling, wear flippers but other than this it's fine. We often went in the water without shoes on and it was fine. Some of the sun loungers do go early on in the day, especially around the pool but we never had a problem getting them, even if we'd had a lay in. The water sports were great too. They taught us both to water ski and we took the kayaks and pedalos out a few times, the staff were great with the numerious children that were using them too.
We did a couple of excursions, the spirit of tradition (crocodile park, rum factory and tea factory) and the virgin ahoy (catamaran journey to isle aux cerfs). Both were great and we really enjoyed them. We also went on the sub scooters which are well advertised out there. These were ok but probably not worth the money in the end.
A mention for virgin too and our reps at the hotel Michaela and Nadia. I planned to ask my now fiancé to marry me whilst on holiday. They organised a magic moments meal for us on a Saturday night at the end of the jetty. This included a private five course meal, a private waiter and thanks to the hotel, some live music just for the two of us to enjoy. Needles to say it went down well. The reps organised all of this for me and helped keep the secret too, even putting rose petals on our bed for us when we returned....thank god she said yes.
The biggest worry for us prior to travelling was the whether as its their winter in August, and we really wanted some sun. But have no fears, the whether was great. We had rain twice and eve then after, the sun came out again. It was overcast once but that gave us a chance to explore the hotel grounds including to ruins, giant tortoises and waterfall.
Overall this holiday will be unforgettable for us for many reasons, but the maritim really did make it truly perfect for us. The staff, the spa, the beach, the whether, the food and the relaxing feel to the hotel was just what we wanted. Mauritius it's self really is a gem too, a paradise in the middle of the Indian ocean and the most relaxing place either of us have ever been too. The biggest complement I can pay it is that we'd both go back in a heart beat tomorrow if we could and we promised ourselves that we'll go back one day.

A lovely hotel. Our prestige room was beautiful, with a great view across the immaculate gardens to the sea. The staff, without fail, were warm, friendly and helpful. Activities are many and varied, as has been detailed elsewhere. The beach is very clean and the beach service is first class. Guests are advised to wear some form of footwear in the sea because of sharp bits of coral, and sea urchins. It is probably advisable. I had a near miss with a sea urchin and one young girl, who was less lucky, was in agony. Getting sea urchin spines in the foot is no joke!
Complaints are relatively minor. The pool bar gets very crowded at night but there is nowhere else to go after having eaten. Food in the Belle Vue buffet does get a little monotonous but there is also the seafood restaurant, La Maree, on the beach, but you have to book. The fine dining restaurant, Chateaux Mon Desir, is another option, though a supplement is required.
We hired a car, for the day, from the hotel - about £35. Much cheaper than the organised trips, and more fun. They even drive on the left, which is a joy if you are from the UK!
Overall, this is an excellent hotel and we look forward to returning one day.

Room Tip: The prestige rooms are spacious and very elegant.

In the 1935 film 'Mutiny on the Bounty' the cynical old ship's surgeon declines to go ashore at a tropical island paradise - declaring "When you've seen one island, you've seen them all!" Poor guy had obviouly never seen this one.
And the Maritim must be close to a faultlessly perfect place to stay. One could describe the rooms, the facilities, the staff, the activities - all of which are excellent - but for us the most outstanding feature was the setting. The grounds here are just magical - they are extensive, well-maintained and interesting - but above all they are a stunningly beautiful place just to walk through and be in. Their Eden-like charm certainly captivated us, settling a veil of peace, contentment and profound wellbeing across us such as we have seldom experienced.
If you are to ever visit just one tropical island paradise, this could be it.
