Reviewed June 12, 2012

After looking at many many hotels in Mauritius we chose the Maritim as the venue for our wedding on the 31st May and I really dont think we could have made a better choice. On one of the trips out we got a chance to look at a number of the local hotels, including Le Victoria (which my brother and sister in law were staying at) and The Maritim beat them all hands down in terms of the facilities and the beauty of the hotel itself. None of the brochure pictures I have seen really do the hotel justice.

The only grumble I have at this hotel is the food available to vegetarians.......there basically isn't any! I remember one day asking what the vegetarian options for dinner were and being pointed towards chips and some boiled cauliflower! Certainly not 5 star quality food! The meat and fish eaters get oysters and a wide selection of expensive meat and fish dishes.....and we vegetarians get chips! We went as a group of 15 people with the majority of us being vegetarian, with the added complexity of my in-laws refusing to eat anything apart from Indian vegetarian food. Fortunately we spoke to one of the chefs (Ramjug) and he was more than happy to accomodate our requirements and produced a selection of indian dishes for my in laws every night and European vegetarian dishes for myself and my husband. However, this did mean we had to decide what we wanted in advance and ask the chef to make it. This was a shame as meat and fish eaters had over 20 dishes to choose from every night and we weren't given the same variety yet had to pay the same amount. From what I have heard though, all the hotels are equally poor at catering for vegetarians.

The reason we picked the Maritim is that my husband in Hindu and wanted a Hindu ceremony as well as a wedding. The Maritim was able to organise both for us easily. PLEASE NOTE: We booked our wedding package through Virgin and I cannot recommend more strongly AGAINST anyone using Virgin as they were utterly useless. I ended up liaising directly with the hotel to arrange everything as every single thing we asked of Virgin was too much trouble, even down to the most basic details of booking a vegetarian meal on the plane they failed at completely and couldn't possibly have been any LESS helpful. When I called Virgin to ask if they were able to arrange a Hindu wedding I was told this was something their wedding department could do after we booked with them........but their wedding department does NOT organise weddings.....they merely send you a letter telling you to contact the hotel if you want to arrange anything. They didn't lift a finger towards organising the wedding! Go with Destinology instead if you don't want to stress of having to plan every tiny detail yourself!

Anyway, back to the hotel! the rooms in this hotel have been recently renovated and are of a very high standard. We originally booked a Priviledge room but were upgraded on arrival to a Prestige Room......but when we had a problem with the air conditioning leaking we got moved to a suite which was really lovely, very spacious and overlooking the beautiful beach.

We had our wedding at 12 in the Chateau Mon Desir overlooking the ruins and the waterfall which was really lovely and the Hindu ceremony at sunset in the beach gazebo. The hotel arranged everything we needed from the white horse and sword for the Hindu ceremony to the bouquets and buttonholes for the wedding. the Wedding Co-ordinator Madhvi was excellent and really bent over backwards to meet our needs.

At all times we found the staff to be very attentive and helpful and they always bent over backwards to make sure everyone had a fantastic time. All 17 of us absolutely loved it here, are missing it already, and would love to come back again one day.

No Website or brochure does this place justice. We spent an amazing week here last February, my daughter and her husband, together with my son and his partner. We were five people spanning two generations, and we all agreed it was the best holiday ever. We had 3 separate rooms in different parts of the hotel, so there is no question of us getting lucky with our rooms. The excellent standard was consistent across all rooms, which were spotless with ample supplies of towels and all the toiletries you could want or need, not to mention the fully loaded mini-bar, most of which was covered by the all-inclusive..
The location and facilities were far better than we had expected; being in beautifully kept grounds and on a pristine beach. Every detail has been thought of for one's comfort. We liked the departure lounge which provided facilities, to the same superior standard, for those who had checked out, but had a departing flight late in the day, so you could enjoy the facilities right up to the last minute.
We had taken the all inclusive option, which was well worth it with two hungry men on board. My daughter is a Vegan and had no trouble finding food she liked and could eat. The staff were always willing to whip up something for her if she wanted. There was such an excellent choice of food , that everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals, whether in the restaurant, on the beach or in the bar.
As for the service, it was impeccable. The staff could not do enough for you, and always with a smile. From the cleaning staff to the restaurants and the bar, these gentle calm people were an absolute pleasure to deal with. They were never in your face, but always there when you needed them. Always willing and ready to help.

As others have done I will break this review down into sections.

Hotel - very rarely do the brochure photos bear any resemblance to the hotel but on this occasion I have to say that perhaps the brochure doesn’t do it justice. The accommodation was amazing, with a lovely and personal touch for our honeymoon. The standard of the room and furniture were excellent, as was the service.
The minibar inside the room was restocked daily and most items were free of charge. Nice big comfy bed. Great bathroom with stand alone bath and double shower.

Food - La Maree (beach restaurant) became our lunch time eating venue, you can eat here in an evening but you will need to book in advance. This is a table/waiter service restaurant. The buffet restaurant, Belle Vue is the hotel's main one. This we used for breakfasts and our evening meals. Plenty of varied choice however sometimes the food was luke warm.
Chateau Mon Desir - the resorts 'posh' a la carte style restaurant was a wonderful evening out for us, however very pricey (even if you're on AI, you will pay for the food and drink here).

Staff - The staff and the people of Mauritius are simply fantastic. They were attentive, courteous and nothing was too much trouble for them. Staff around the resort seemed to remember you and would always speak whenever they saw you - a really nice touch.

Plenty to do - lots of activities /entertainment provided by the hotel. Most are free on AI and the staff were excellent and friendly yet again.

We were upgraded on check in to a Prestige Room on the quieter side of the hotel (room 430) this was perfect and a lovely surprise. We were on the top floor and had a great view of the sea, beach and gardens from the balcony.

We would definitely love to return to Mauritius in the future and without hesitation would book the Maritim in a heartbeat.

A special thank you to Aurelie (Guest Communication Manager) & all of the Maritim staff!

Room Tip: 430 - great view, on quieter side of hotel. Nice large room with excellent facilties. Rooms are cl...

We flew Business Class on Air Mauritius (which we could not fault for service and friendliness of staff) on the 16th May 2012. After a long but comfortable flight we arrived at The Maritim in the early afternoon, where we were greeted with a refreshing drink and a cold towel, and the biggest welcome from the front desk and staff.
The hotel entrance and grounds as you drive through are immaculate and breath taking with everyone that you pass smiling and welcoming you to the resort.
After a brief introduction about the hotel, we were then escorted to our room (430) which was a Prestige room - We were certainly not disappointed with the room, and the view which overlooked the beach and the wedding gazebo. The room was spotless and very modern and always kept clean and tidy with replacement towels, toiletries and the mini bar was constantly replenished.
We chose The Maritim for our wedding venue and we were amazed and blown away by the care and attention to detail by all members of staff, in particular, a huge big thank you to Madhavi and "the little one" who are so helpful and who made our wedding the most amazing day of our lives, nothing was too much trouble, and our day was perfect and stress- free in every way, we cannot thank you enough. All the managers and staff congratulated us on our wedding in their own special way which made it both memorable and very personal.
The Maritim has 3 restaurants, we dined in all three, and cannot fault the standard and presentation of food and friendless of staff from the managers to the waiters to the chefs. There was a wide variety of food to choose from which was always fresh and beautifully presented, we cannot understand how people have previously seemed disappointed with the food as noted in previous reviews as we always found and enjoyed the food, from freshly cooked pastas and salads to freshly made Sushi.
We had our wedding supper in a private room in the Fine Dining Restaurant, where the food is off the highest standard and presented beautifully, all to the sound of a pianist playing softly which added to the experience, the staff and manger in this restaurant are also superb with attention to detail that makes for a fine dining experience.
The Quarter Deck bar is a great place to unwind in the evening whilst drinking cocktails and some premium branded drinks. A huge massive big thank you to Ajay and his staff for truly looking after us from the moment we arrived until the time that we said our "goodbyes" Ajays commitment and hard work cannot be faulted as we never had to wait for a drink to arrive be it chilling out by the pool during the day , or relaxing in the evening in the bar, we were always welcomed with a drink and a smile.
The Spa is one of the best we have ever been to, again friendly staff who are only too pleased to assist you, especially on our wedding day where I was treated to a private room within the Spa to relax and have treatments and unwind for that perfect moment.
There are so many people that we would like to thank, Philip who runs the riding stables was great and my husband and his brother enjoyed their early morning hack along the beach.
We would also like to thank all the ground staff, the guys in the towel hut and the boys who work on the water sports.
Overall, the hotel and staff would be hard pressed to beat, as through their dedication to detail and hard work and commitment, we enjoyed every minute of our stay with them and are already looking to rejoin them early next year, if not sooner.

We have just returned from what has to be the holiday of a life time at one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. We read all of the reviews before we booked and it exceeded our greatest expectations. Ignore any poor reviews before 2010 as the hotel has been updated and the attention to detail is overwhelming.

From the minute you arrive you are treated like Royalty. All of the staff, and there are plenty of them, are so friendly and welcoming with one intention of making sure you really enjoy your holiday.

We travelled with our two girls, aged 8 and 11, and we were slightly apprehensive as the hotel is very suited to couples and especially honeymooners. We needn't have worried as it was half term and the facilities were perfect to the extent that we felt so safe that we let the girls spend the day enjoying the "Turtle Club", beach and pool at their discretion to the point that they even dined without us with their new found best friends.

Everything about the hotel is first class. We went All Inclusive and we would fully recommend it especially if you like a drink or three. The range of food and drink available is astonishing and we fully took advantage of it with some other like minded guests which really helped the week become so memorable. We only spent £300 all week and that was on horse riding on the beach twice, golf, tips and souveniers.

The only slight gripes I could mention are that the pool wasn't heated and was a little cold but we spent most of our time by the beach and in the lovely sea. Also the waiter service could be a little slow if they were busy but that was only because we were greedy and impatient which is easily overcome by doubling up your order!!

Last but not least a special mention to "Dave". He looks after you so well by his little beach that you want to take him home with you. Thank you Dave for helping us enjoy our holiday so much that we have already started saving for our next trip to Maritim.

Room Tip: All the rooms looked beautiful with fantastic views but the hotel is so nice why would you want to s...

Just returned from our stay at the Maritim Hotel. Where me and my finacee also got married.
It was truly amazing!

Going to break this down into sections not to bore everyone.

10 of us travelled

Amazing grounds, with so much to offer and do. Lovely beaches, great sporting (land & water) activities, clean and tidy, beautiful gardens and just an amazing place to take a holiday or get married.

The staff always had a smile on there face and were very happy to help in any situation. It was a pleasure to be around so many smiley faces.

Belle Vue - Is a buffet style restaurant so you get what is asked really. Food is different every night of the week from MAURITIAN to INDIAN to CHINESE to INTERNATIONAL. Very varied selection, i would say that the food is not always as described but hey its a buffet if you don't like the food leave it, the staff will clear your plate and you can go and grab something different.

La Maree - Beach restaurant is a greta place to eat, very nice location and very romantic. Its an AL A CARTE menu for HB (half board guests) or a set menu for AI (all inclusive guests). We we're AI and loved the food here, STEAK & SEAFOOD is the norm here but 3 courses of well presented and tasty food.

Chateaux Mon Desir - Fine dining at its best. This is not included in the AI and is rather expensive but you get what you pay for. The food was exquisite and the service is out of this world

Is served in both Belle Vue & La Maree howvere LA MAREE is not for AI, so we ate in Belle Vue everyday as this was great, from French Toast to cereal or fruit or a full english its all there.

Service for drinks and food was great, it did differ when the resort was very busy (which it was at the end of our stay) but you kind of expect that in Mauritius' off season.
All servers for drinks and food were very friendly and would bend over backwards for you.

The staff for the wedding were out of this world. Very helpful and made us feel very relaxed and happy to get married here. It was a 5 star service with a smile.

We have a priviledged room, which was amazing. Very clean (cleaned everyday) and tidy, lovely view of the beach and ocean as well as the garden. Mini bar was a nice surprise to be included in out AI package. Bed was turned down every night when we ate at dinner, with fresh towels ready for the morning.

Now this is a great place to relax. Sauna (private men and womens or a group one), Steam (always smelt of eucalyptus, very nice) Jacuzzi (large) and a glorious surroundings.
We got a couples massage here too and it was great, staff were excellent here just like the resort,

All this is inclusive of AI.
Snorkling, water skiing, kayak, pedlo, glass bottom boat, sailing, wind surfing, table tennis, large chess, volleyball, tennis, mini golf, darts, archery..... and i'm sure i have missed some off.
The sports are great we did nearly everything here and the boathouse team and very helpful and make you feel at ease in whatever you try, we went water skiing having never done it before and all of us got up 1st time.
Other paid sports include:
Parasaiing - 1500rps
Scuba - 2400rps
Rubber rings - 500rps
Horse Riding - 600rps
Dolphin Watching - ?
and again i'm sure there is more...

If your looking at going to Mauritius to either wed or just relax. Go to the Maritim and get the AI. We have been to St Lucia in the Caribbean before and the maritim really showed us how AI should be. It was amazing. We went as a group of ten and was very well looked after, we would definatley return and tell thousands of people to just go there. £1750 for a week AI, is what we paid and it was well worth the money.

If you whinge about this place your looking for absolute perfection and looking for something wrong to whinge about, ignore the bad reviews (if any) as this is a paradise.
I've read people moaning about towels and sunbeds, well all i can say is read your booklets in the room, YOU CANNOT RESERVE a sunbed and towels are at the TOWEL HUT clue is in the name, people can be soooo picky. Just obey the rules and if you feel wronged by anything tell the staff they will be happy to make your stay more enjoyable, the managers there are ever so pleasant.

we travelled with emeirates, trough a company called IF ONLY (for our wedding) which was organised by WHITE SAND TOURS and held in MARITIM where we stayed.

We celebrated my husband's 50th at the Maritim, it was totally awesome everything was above and beyond what we expected. The staff are so friendly and helpful, nothing is to much. My husband and I enjoyed a week of relaxing and enjoying one another company. The resort has so much to offer from horse riding to scuba diving. The food I must be honest was good but very much the same daily, we don't enjoy spicy much so they sure could do with a bit more variation.
Will be returning soon :)

Room Tip: I booked a sea view room, but was told it used to be a sea view room but the trees had grown (crazy...
