We Loved it! We had done our research and looked at just about every available option in Shela, Lamu and Manda. We were looking for something authentic, unpretentious and chill and that is exactly what we got. First, the owner Rachel and the staff were welcoming, accommodating and friendly - from the minute we were picked up at the airport by Kapala we were treated like family. The entire staff seemed to know our names within minutes of our arrival. The food is fresh and delicious, compliments to the chef. Don't miss the banana pancakes with lime and honey and the shrimp burgers at lunch are great. The bandas are really cool, a Gilligan’s Island fantasy come true with special touches like fresh flowers floating in your foot bath and arranged on your bed each morning. Schedule a day out on a sailing dhow snorkeling, relaxing and having one of the best lunches you’ll ever eat. Please keep in mind this is an eco resort. If you remember that, the only thing that will disappoint you is your attitude. Don’t forget your bug spray and sunscreen and enjoy spending time in a beautiful location surrounded by wonderful people.

We had the most wonderful time at Diamond Beach. It was a proper Robinson Crusoe experience with a deserted, perfect beach, beautiful and simple accomodation, super friendly and helpful staff, a real community feeling (but we were left alone when we wanted to be) and fantastic food (especially if you like seafood).

The attention to detail was great with flowers left on our bed daily and fresh flowers in our little foot pool by the door.

We went on one excursion - a fishing and reef trip on a wooden sailing boat. We were really well looked after and the fish lunch made on the boat as we explored a deserted island was the best meal of the whole trip!

We can't recommend this place highly enough and we want to go back soon. All we would say is that you have to go with the understanding that this is an eco resort. Don't expect air conditioning, power showers and access to a hotel gym! What you will find is perfect relaxation, good company, great food and an experience like no other we've known.

I wanted to visit Lamu and Shella but I was also looking for some beach time so I took a little risk when I chose to stay at Diamond Beach on Manda Island but wow did it ever pay off. The fabulous white sandy beach is at the doorstep and it's almost deserted most of the time since very few tourists visit there. Yet Shella is just across the bay, a 10 minute boat ride away, and Lamu town is only 20 minutes away. We were easily able to sail across on a dow and explore the old town of Lamu for few hours then head back to hang out on the beach in the afternoons. The beach is free of any vendors or hawkers which was a bonus and is perfect for an early morning or late afternoon walk.
The bandas are basic and rustic and built in typical African style yet very comfortable and clean. The food prepared and brought to your table on the beach front was delicious.
Unlike Lamu and Shella spectacular sunsets can be watched from Diamond Beach since it faces the west and once the darkness covers the African sky and the stars appear a log fire is lit right on the beach front which provides a great place and atmosphere to meet new friends, while Rachael and the staff go out of their way to make you feel at ease and at home. It's the perfect place to chill out.

We only stayed for 3 days, but it was bliss. The accommodation is very basic - but we were expecting this so there were no surprises. It was very comfortable and we had the most relaxing, wonderful time. The food was incredible - the chef there is very talented and made the most delicious meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. But above all else, the beach and the views were the most fantastic thing. As we visited just before high season started, it was virually empty and we had it to ourselves, bar 2 or 3 other guests. I would highly recommend the sunset cruise if you get the chance. Nicest people we've ever met - we'll definitely be returning one day.

Diamond Beach is a fabulous retreat in Lamu offering everything needed for the perfect chill out holiday. The banda's are simple but stylish and comfortable and there are loungers, swings and hammocks all over the gardened area. A few paces away is the beach - mostly empty - and a great spot for swimming and cooling down. Food is simply prepared and tasty and the bar has cold tusker and cocktails for the perfect evening wind down. It is easy to get to Shela and Lamu by boat, making this the best spot for 'getting away from it' while still having access to the sights and sounds of the archipeligo. The staff are friendly and always happy to help with arranging activities or meeting needs. We stayed three days but i wish it had been more. Its slightly pricier than some other places in Lamu but this is money well spent for the relaxation achieved and the unique experience of staying in such an eclectic spot. Looking forward to a return visit..
