El Quseir Hotel
Ranked #2 of 2 El Quseir B&B and Inns
Reviewed January 19, 2009

We stayed at Hotel Al Quseir together with my wife and stepdaughter in July 2008.

The hotel is an old building just across the road from the sea. We really liked that feel of a historical place and older times which the hotel certainly preserves by having traditional design of a house and providing warm-hearted atmosphere.

Our room was quite big and it had a sea view. It was also furnished quite well. The Hotel has very high ceilings which gives the room a particularly spacious feel. First two days we didn’t have an air conditioner, but hotel staff set it up later on, so that made our stay even more comfortable.

The Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. They always gave us advice on the best things to do in El Quseir. On our part, we spent most of the days just walking around or swimming. One can not swim in front of the hotel due to the local traditions, but it is really easy to catch a car and visit nice beaches 10 kilometers South of town (in fact we never waited more then 10 minutes).

I must particularly note that the sea near El Quseir is absuletely clean and really nice for snorkeling and diving. We heard that the Hotel provides diving services although we never got to try it.

El Quseir is good for those who want to experience a real life of Egypt and escape tourist-flooded places such as Hurghada or Sharm. We have found the people of town very sincere and friendly. Very few if any were trying to cheat or make money out of us. Several times for two weeks of our stay there we were invited to wedding and parties.

All in all, I would say that we have found El Quseir - the right place for simple low-key family holidays. Al Quseir Hotel has made our stay extremely comfortable without laying a heavy burden on our budget.

We have stayed at Al Quseir Hotel a few times over the year 2008.
First, 5 days in March, then 2 weeks in July and then two more days in September.

The hotel is very pleasant, has six rooms, all located in an old renovated Sheikh Tawfiq house. It still has a distinct feel of the old times and by no exaggeration is a heart and soul of the historical part of town.

The service of the place is somewhat laid-back but still appropriate for an institution of this level.

No surprise, my husband and I, have returned there 2 times in 2008. The place has good looks from the windows, spacious rooms, and small but pleasant ground floor restaurant.

There are places to swim right in front of the hotel (for men only) and there are a good number of outstanding (very secluded and quite) beaches 10-15 kms out of town. The staff was helpful to arrange the trips when needed.

A nice Coptic Church, a few very old mosques (going back 200 or 300 years) and a good local market – are all no more than a 10 minute walk from the hotel.

We stayed on the top floor in a room with a sea view, which was particularly nice as the morning sun from the east and fresh evening breeze made the time there extremely enjoyable.

The hotel services nice simple breakfast (complimentary), which one gets just about any time in the morning. It is more like when you wake up and ready – you can have it. The dinner is quite nice too: lots of sea food and a good choice when requested in advance. They normally charge between 35 – 50 EGP for a big few course meal.

The only disadvantage of the place is that their bathrooms are not in the rooms. Having an air-conditioner in summer is also a must – we were able to stay there two weeks in July only because there was a good air-conditioner.

We paid from 140 to 195 EGP depending on when and how long we stayed, so I reckon the average rate is somewhat around 150 – 160 EGP. Bargain when you are there – that should help.

It is probably not the most luxurious hotel in the area – it is more of a historical place for those who want a deeper historical experience in Egypt, but we loved it. As we also loved the overall hassle-free feel of Al Quseir and the area.
