Description: When Driton “Tony” Sylaj came to the USA in 2000 he dreamed of owning his own restaurant. Tony was born in Kosova in January 1983. Upon arriving in this country his first goal was to obtain a degree. He attended the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY and received an Associates Degree in Restaurant and Hotel Management. Tony began as a dishwasher in a small Italian cafe and gradually worked his way up to bus boy, waiter and then captain. He became the front of the house manager and then started to develop an interest in food preparation. He began as a prep cook and ultimately became head chef. His culinary background leading to Grappa is quite diverse. He has cooked and managed restaurants with the Hilton and Ritz Carlton hotels as well as Yonkers Raceway and Casino and the Surf Club Catering Hall. All of these experiences confirmed his goals and dreams. He wanted to own a restaurant of his own that featured exceptional food, an intimate atmosphere and a staff of courteous, hard working professionals. Grappa Ristorante is that and more. Ten years of hard work and commitment have allowed the dreams of Driton Sylaj and his partner, Nick Ahmetaj, to become a reality in Warwick Valley, New York. A long way for both from Kosova.

If you are looking for a nice meal, in a great setting you have to try Grappa Ristorante. We have been dining here since the new owner took over and the place is awesome. They like to offer you a leisurely dining experience so if you are in a rush you might want to mention that. The food is cooked to order and is by far the best Italian in Warwick. They have a nice courtyard in the summer months and a spacious area inside for the colder months. Check it out...you won't be disappointed.

On a neighbor's recommendation, we stopped in for a meal. The service was so bad and tha attitude so negative that we paid for our drinks and left before we had a chance to order. We sat at our table for forty minutes (outside) without getting so much as a peek at a menu, and when we asked for one, we got a sourpuss look from the waiter. The busboy, as we left and explained why, acknowledged server problems. It seemed like this had happened frequently before. The Warwick area is full of wonderful eateries. There's no reason to give this one your business.

We went there by accident. And we were lucky to get in on a busy weekend night. Very nice atmosphere. The service was great and the food was delicious.

We've been to Grappa many times and the last experience really impressed us. Great service, nice atmosphere, good location and real concern for customers. In fact, after having lunch and learning they had jazz planned for the evening, we went back the same day for dinner and world-class (and we mean truly world-class) jazz. They were out of Gluten-free pasta so manager improvised and made arancina, or rice balls, for the bolognese -- which is terrific. What a nice experience.

This past Sunday, Applefest, 8 of us decided to eat here when given a coupon by someone from the restaurant walking around. We are middle aged, professional women celebrating two birthdays. Everything was fine until the bill came and we presented the coupon. The owner, Tony, was hostile, combative, and rude to us. He said it was Applefest so he would not take the coupon. When we politely asked for an explanation, and said that the coupon does not exclude Sundays- his answer was "well, I am not honoring it, how do you like that, and I don't need your business". We were aghast, mouths hanging open that an owner would speak to a customer like that! He told us to pay the bill and get out of his restaurant before he calls the police! We asked his name, he said Tony. When we asked his last name, he said he did not have one! Tables around us heard what happened, and several patrons asked what happened and thought it was horrible how he acted over $15 off a $60. bill. This guy should not be in a customer driven job.
