“Dirt masquerading as charm”
Reviewed August 27, 2009

The smell of mildew should have been the first sign of trouble. The dust and hair clogged sink and claw foot tub were a complete turn-off. Adding insult to injury with an uncalled for gratuity on top of the tax, made for an unsatisfactory stay for this pet lover.

I like this B&B so much, I make up excuses just to come! Stressful week at work? Come to Audrey's. Special occasion? Come to Audrey's. (You get the idea!)
I stay at B&Bs quite frequently and this one definitely stands out. The house is over 200 years old, and the owners have taken great care in restoring it with time period rustic antiques that look great but manage to also be dog-friendly! The rooms are nicely decorated and unique (I always stay in the Kenya room, which is small, but a good value).
The two things I like best about this B&B, aside from the friendly owners, delicious breakfast, wonderful amenities, and the like are: 1) the owners live on the property, but not in the house, which means they're around if you need them, but not "ever present," which, if you've ever stayed at a B&B like that, you feel like you're intruding into someone's personal house! This also means that at night, you can walk into the kitchen, grab a soda, and feel right at home. 2) this place has got to be the most dog-friendly B&B I have ever been to, and I love taking my Golden Retriever with me. They don't have leash rules, and will allow you to leave the dog in your room if you go out for a meal, and dogs are welcome everywhere in the house (except during breakfast! no one wants to share their sausages with friendly four-legged creatures!). Plus, there's no "pet deposit" or extra changes, plain and simple. By the same token, though, if you AREN'T a dog lover, this isn't going to be the B&B for you, because there will always be dogs around!

A great experience, we'll be back again and again. This farmhouse dates back to the 1700s. It's quaint, cozy, and full of charm. The staff is amazingly friendly and the owners stop in to have wine and roast marshmallows with you in the evening. We went skiing and they had to watch my French bulldog all day, they were amazing with him. They even gave him a dog treat along with the mints on our pillows. I think the dog had even more fun than I did. There's a hot-tub, complimentary homemade sweets and snacks everywhere (I think I gained 10 pounds while I was there), breakfast is made everyday and is included in your stay, beautiful views of the ridge and surrounding hiking trails. You don't even have to do much planning; Audrey and Don can tell you the best restaurants, ski spots, and stores, and the fastest way to get there. And if you just want to sit around and lounge, you'll be in great company. This place is a magnet for the more laid-back NYC couples and their dogs.

I was searching for a pet-friendly B&B in lower New York when I stumbled across Audrey's website. My wife and I travel with our two golden retrievers regularly, which usually means camping. No so on this trip. Audrey's Farmhouse is a wonderful place to stay. The house was clean and welcoming, the owner's and staff were wonderful to chat with, the food was excellent, and the grounds and surroundings are beautiful. Our dogs were welcomed warmly and doted on by the staff, and evenings spent reading by the fireplace were great. My wife and I look forward to returning when we can.

  • Liked — Charming historic home, cozy fireplace, welcoming of pets
  • Disliked — The bedroom was a bit small, but perfectly adequate and tastefully decorated

The best B&B in the New Paltz area - especially if you have a dog. The owners are wonderful, the food is very good, and the backyard is huge with a swimming pool and a wonderful view of the gunks. Highly recommended!

We stayed at Audreys because we'd heard it was dog friendly--and it was. Dogs have the run of the house and the grounds, so if you're not a dog lover, this isn't the place for you.

The inn itself is fine. It could use a little repair work and updating; for example, the fan in our bathroom was broken and hanging partway out of the ceiling. The carpet in our room was worn and stained, as was the upholstery on a chair in there. (This is all keeping in mind, of course, the age of the house itself.) The setting is gorgeous.

Breakfasts were delicious, and there are snacks and drinks available for guests.

Despite the exultations of Audrey's hospitality on the website, though, she seems to spend most of her time sitting by the pool. The one responsible for making guests feel so comfortable is Tracy, who manages the inn, welcomes guests, keeps up the rooms, does all the cooking, puts together snack bags for hikers, organizes local-area information for visitors, and leaves goody bags for the dogs. She has a couple girls assisting her some days, but she's the real heart of the inn.

  • Liked — Welcoming and very dog friendly.
  • Disliked — Needs some updating and maintenance.

I stayed here as part of a road-trip filled with dog-friendly B&Bs. Much to my surprise, this was the most laid-back of them all. Tracy (the manager) is friendly and truly loves dogs (a very nice relief for a traveler with a large dog). And she's a wonderful cook - breakfast is a seated 4-5 course affair. The farmhouse is very quaint, and is surrounded by a relaxing rural landscape. (This also means you need to bring your bug spray or slather yourself with repellant.) My one complaint is there was no TV in our room (Cathedral Room). The inn is in a pretty rural environment, so there's not a whole lot to do on a rainy day.
