“Had the pleasure of spending three days at the Wainscott Inn”
Reviewed July 2, 2009

Had the pleasure of spending three days at the Wainscott Inn in the Hamptons in early June. What a great place!

This was our first trip to New York. Staying at the Inn made it a very pleasant vacation! The room was very lovely and comfortable.

It is a great place to use as home base while you are exploring the Hamptons, and it reminded me of hotels found in Europe. Delightful and Quaint. I am looking forward to returning.

My wife and I have stayed at the Wainscott Inn several times. We are there on business, not for pleasure, always in June and August and always through a weekend. We booked premium rooms and found them to very overpriced for the decor, amenities, ambience and quality of furnishings. However, as there is little choice in the area, we gritted our teeth and returned year after year.

The last time we stayed there was a nightmare. I will make the one positive comment I can up front. The bathroom was excellent, -- now for the problems. We were greeted inside the door to our "king room," one of the most expensive, by a Fleet enema box on the floor...Wow! There was no chair of any kind in the room, the walls were dirty, the floor was gritty, the sheets were ripped, the small refrigerator was broken, the three pieces of furniture were mismatched and looked like flea market finds in total disrepair, and the final insult -- the air conditioning could not be controlled from our room. We had to call the office and ask to have it turned on...and when we did they would turn it off in an hour or so and we would have to call again and undergo a humiliating discussion of whether I really needed AC right now or not. The staff was, in fact, generally unpleasant. Then to top it off, when we were leaving my wife noticed a cockroach on the floor. She had had enough so when checking out, let them know about some of the problems. They allowed that if there was a cockroach we “must have brought it.” They were somewhat apologetic about the problems and promised to make it up to us next time around with a big room upgrade.

So to end this lovely story, the next year we grudgingly called for reservations, (did I mention that they are only 3 miles from our work in the Hamptons and traffic is a perennial problem), only to be told that we were blackballed from staying ever again because my wife had the temerity to complain. Again, Wow! I have stayed in inns and fine hotels all over the USA and the World, -- some were great, a few were marginal, but none so over priced, unpleasant and disappointing as the Wainscott Inn. I strongly recommend staying elsewhere.

The guests stayed here this one and only time. It is true that the Hamptons are expensive, but we are one of the more reasonably priced choices here on the border of East and Southampton (Sagaponack). The guests were upset with the price that they paid, and complained and made allegations about the staff and the business.Check our website for rates.

The Hamptons are a rural area with many different types of wildlife and insects, including beautiful ocean beaches just 1 mile away.

We have been members of both the East and Southampton Chambers of Commerce for approximately 20 years, and have been the same owners since 1986. Our rooms are some of the cleanest and best maintained in the area.

I invite anyone, to ask the Chambers about us, or ask for references. You can also call us for a private tour.. We would be happy to show you around.
