“Nice park along the Long Island Sound”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2013

Nice park located along the Long Island Sound in Wading River, NY. You need an annual Empire Passport or must pay for parking.

Great spot for camping - tents or campers.

“Great local getaway.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 31, 2013

A beautiful well maintained park. There are a variety of activities including a great campground with full camper hook-ups. A clean beach, and large picnic area along with scenic hiking trails are a few of the highlights.

“Camping and hiking”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2013

I have been to this park literally hundreds of times in all kinds of weather. For XC skiing it is excellent. In summer there is camping with both electric and non-electric sites. Rates are very reasonable and there a good amenities. There is camp store and just outside the park a deli just down the block. There is also day parking for any number of activities including a barbeque area for parties and such. There is a phenomenal beach at the bottom of a long ramp. Reservations are recommended in peak season. This place gets pretty crowded in the summer. There is a play area for the little ones with swings and jungle gym and such. The hiking is some of the best on Long Island with great views of Long Island sound. There are several loops ranging from 2 miles to about 5 miles. Nice wide trails and very well marked. There are maps along the way and you can shorten any loop. This place is loaded with white tail deer that can easily be seen around dusk. Please be aware that in the summer this park is loaded with ticks so bring the long pants sleeves and bug spray.

“Camping....”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 21, 2013

Camping is available through Columbus DAy weekend. Book ahead if you plan on going that last weekend, as it is a popular one and they book quickly. (Camp that weekend, and spend the day pumpkin picking at the local farms). We have camped June and October there. June is nice because you have the beach down the bluff. Have your kids bring their bicycles, as the roads through the campground are paved and perfect for bikes & scooters. Make sure they bring their helmets....

“stunning beach!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2013

I just discovered this beach recently and have to say it is now my new favorite beach! (in the northeast anyway)

This beach is so stunning with dramatic landscapes of towering dunes and unique rock features. Very geologically intresting area - and the colors in all the rocks and pepples are so pretty, with pinks, purples, and oranges. It is a very long strench of beach so great for walking.

Not sure how crowded it gets in the summer, but I was there on a week day in September and there were only about 5 other people on the beach - so relaxing!

The water is so clear - it was too cold to swim when I was there, but looks like there would be good snorkeling around the rocks. I could see fish just standing from the shore. Also good for birdwatching - saw gulls, egrets, and swans.

Although the trails are not too well maintained, there is hiking on top of the dunes, which offer some spectacular views!

Only negative is the beach is more pebbly than sandy, but I did find a few patches of sand for sunbathing.
