My Wife and I come out to Turning Stone every month or so. The dining selections at Turning Stone tend to be extreme: Stuff yourself Buffet, or unappetizing mall-like food court fast-food, or high end fancy restaurants. When we learned about the new Upstate Tavern, we thought we would try it out.

We were greeted at the door and seated promptly. The waitress was polite, and attentive. The menu listed just what we were looking for: a nice mix of appetizers, sandwiches, and larger meals. My Wife was not too hungry, so she ordered the Spedies as a meal, and I ordered the Beef on Shaved Weck. The Spedies come, oddly enough with Pita bread and tzatziki on the side. ( I know, not traditional, but it tasted good.) The Beef on Weck was excellent, with a salty/fennel seed bun and some au jus for dipping, plus a dollop of wonderfully hot horseradish on the side, it totally met my expectations. The fries were good, warm and obviously cut and made there.

The only thing missing from the menu were Saratoga chips, and those little 3" long chili dogs you get in the Albany area.

The place was nicely decorated, pub style, so there was a casual atmosphere. It was not the best place I have ever been to eat in my life, but it is not supposed to be. The Upstate Tavern definitely fits a hole in between the cheapo food and high end restaurants.

We will surely be back when we visit Turning Stone again.

The food was very good, the service was really fast, the staff was pleasant. I don't know if we missed it on the menu, but it would have been appreciated if the waitress had advised us up front that the gratuity was added to the bill automatically. We almost left a really huge tip...

The Upstate Tavern is one of the more reasonably priced restaurants in Turning Stone. I had the steak frittes and my girlfriend had the tavern burger. Both were cooked to exactly as ordered. The raspberry hard cider is delicious too. Had the chicken speedie skewers and wings as an app. The wings were good but nothing too special. The Skewards were pretty good.

Tip: Check out happy hour deals from 4-6. Try getting to the Tavern before 5:30 to make sure you have time to eat before a show as there can be a wait.

We visited the Upstate Tavern during the last week of June, 2013. The bar area was inviting, but during the advertised Happy Hour, they were "out of" the beer special, and had no substitute. The chicken wings were half price, and were delicious, though. Reviewing the menu, we found the print to be pretty tiny, and the meal offerings were nothing out of the ordinary. We were expecting more from this venue, considering its locale.
