We have eaten here before and have had wonderful meals, but last night was a complete disappointment. The four of us were ready to enjoy another great Italian meal in the cozy atmosphere complete with gas fireplace warmth adding ambiance as well as taking the chill out of nasty night. Our shared antipasto was smaller than we expected and looked more like a blend of chopped up ingredients than a true salad. Even the cheese and salami were in tiny chunks; the only "normal" appearing pieces were the tomato slices. But it was tasty and served with their signature warm garlic bread. The calamari was just okay -- some of the pieces were rubbery from overcooking. In the past, the calamari has been superb.
The Utica greens were large enough to share, but we couldn't find the hot peppers in it and it was warm, not hot (temperature-wise) when brought to our table. The hit of the night was chicken francaise which was served hot with sides of sliced roasted potato and four asparagus spears. The sauce was light and lemony --delicious and exactly what we had anticipated. However, another entree which came with meatballs was cold. The meatballs were barely lukewarm....that seemed unforgivable since couldn't meatballs sit in the kitchen stewing in sauce to keep them piping hot??
Prices were reasonable. Perhaps we made a mistake expecting a real meal and should have gone with their signature pizzas. Service was good except for one point when the antipasto that we weren't finished with was almost taken from the table --we had all been polite the first time it went around the table so it was just a matter of who would weaken first to finish it up :)
So the three stars is a result of mixed experience that had some highs and lows. Perhaps our expectations were too high?
