Small place with very few tables. Food was wonderful and service was the best in this area. Very knowledgeable staff and local ingredients. Wonderful experience!

My husband an I dined at the Tailor and The Cook on a Saturday night. Absolutely above average cuisine for the immediate area and any other area. Unique style, excellent presentation from appetizer to dessert. We had the Arctic char and the NY Strip. Both were wonderful. Jim, our server was excellent with a vast knowledge of the origin of the local food sources. Tip: call or go online well in advance for a reservation!

My wife and I visit Utica 6-8 times per year. We've been trying to dine at T&C since it opened but haven't been successful. We finally did on Saturday night and it was more than worth the wait. The entire meal was fantastic!
We like the location since it's right downtown in an area that needs new and exciting businesses. The ambiance and decor is wonderful. The noise level is boisterous and lively but not excessively loud. We started with the cheese platter which was thoughtfully laid out with a wonderful variety of cheeses. Our two favorites were a goat blue cheese called Cayuga Blue and a sheep's milk cheese called Softie. Two truly stunning cheeses. For dinner my wife had a NY Strip Steak au poivre with Cognac and Green Peppercorn Cream, Yukon Gold and White Truffle Mashed Potato. The steak was perfectly prepared and utterly delicious. I had the veal sirloin special with mashed potatoes and arugula and ramps. The flavors were balanced and delicious; just mouthwatering. The salads were a delicious mix of fresh greens with a sherry vinaigrette. Everything was just perfect. We never wanted the meal to end. The only minor disappointment was the honey pistachio ice cream for dessert. It was very flavorful and packed with pistachios but was very dry and crumbly and lacking the creamy flavor and texture of ice cream.
The wine list is good with a broad enough variety for every type of food. Some may complain that the depth of offering is lacking but I do get tired of restaurants where I have to spend 20 minutes just trying to sort through the Chiantis or Cal Cabs, for example.
I love hearing about where the foods are sourced. Our waitress, Sarah, had a passionate knowledge of the foods and ingredients and was quick to let us know where we could find the cheeses that we loved, if we wanted to.
We plan on returning at every opportunity that we can. Utica needs more restaurants with such interesting and high quality food.

My wife's birthday was the occasion for our first visit to this wecome addition to Utica dining scene. Both of us love to cook, and seek rstaurants that offer something new to us. Overall we had a very enjoyable experience. The service and food selection were excellent, despite the fact every table was full (it was a Friday evening). Memorable dishes included the New England clam chowder served with very fresh, tender clams in the shell, a unique touch! The Moroccan Chicken Tagine was exceptional, moist and very flavorful, complemented by the cous cous and lightly mashed sweet potato/carrot sides. Also excellent, the Arctic char was marred only by being served with the skin, which was overpoweringly strong for a relatively mild fish. But the highlight of the dinner was the Apricot Bread Pudding with an extraordinarily delicious White Chocolate Creme Anglais (worth a visit just for this alone!). The ambience included imaginative decoration, but was adversely impacted by the noise level, which was unacceptably loud. Perhaps, some people enjoy the 'happening' scene, but it rendered casual conversation virtually impossible. The fact that the kitchen was part of the dining area contributed even more noise, and strong, smoky aromas, that were not very appetizing. I personally feel that mixing this 'theater' exhibition was a jarring note to an otherwise remarkable high end dining experience. We will come back, but at a time when it is much less crowded.
