Owner description: The Wild Center is an 81-acre hands-on place to get all kinds of new perspectives on the wild world of the Adirondacks. It will include Wild Walk, a brand new trail across the treetops starting in the summer of 2015. The Wall Street Journal called The Wild Center "Glorious" in its review, and The New York Times called it "stunning". The Center has live animals, a wide screen theater, canoes, its own river, guides walks, tons of cutting-edge green building systems, and the only treetop walk in the Adirondacks.
Useful Information: Activities for young children, Wheelchair access, Bathroom facilities, Food available for purchase

The Wild Center is on of the best nature centers I have been to. I wish I lived near it so I could keep coming back. I loved seeing the otters and the other wildlife they had. It was fun and loved every minute I was there. I walked on some of the hiking trails they have and was glad to see they had many activities for the whole family. We really enjoyed the butterfly movie they were showing when we were there.

We spent much of a day visiting both the outside and indoors features of the Wild Center. The exhibits were outstanding - we especially liked the sea otters. We got close up presentations featuring a porcupine, rat snake, and turtle. We viewed several videos in the large theater. There is a cafe where we had lunch - it was far better than most museum cafes and reasonably priced. This is a great place for kids - we were with another couple but plan on returning with our grandchildren. Next year a new section will open with elevated walkways outdoors. The model on display looked awesome. Two alerts: we did one of the nature walks outside and it was extremely buggy. We were not prepared with bug spray or anything so we had to hurry through that. Also, the museum is kept quite cool due to all the exhibits which feature water, ice, and wildlife (although the theater was freezing too) . We kept taking breaks and going outside to warm up, as we did not have jackets. Definitely bring a jacket or sweatshirt.

The otter tank is definitely a big hit with the children, and many of us adults. In the lobby a naturalist will discuss an animal he or she has out to meet the visitors. Then take questions - children love this!
There is a "no extra charge" theater.
There are miles of easy hiking trails.

We took our kids ages 1, 4, and 5 here on July 4. They had a blast; they can touch everything! They loved all the exhibits, especially the watercolor painting, and even sat still and enjoyed an educational video. We walked around the grounds a little, next time we will allot more time for a hike or canoe ride. The staff are really nice which makes the visit even more pleasant. Wish we lived closer!
