We visited this state park during a recent visit to Rochester, NY. It's a beautiful state park. Our daughter is in a wheelchair and we were able to take her down the trails to the falls. The paths are not paved. However, it was manageable. This park is in the finger lakes region and it was a nice drive from Rochester.

Park in two parts.
1. River & falls.
We walked up (in) the river to the falls and around the ridge (about 2 miles). Very pretty, fun paddling. Safe and family friendly.
2. Lake.
Small park and roped off swimming area and pontoon with diving board. Lake a bit weedy but clean with life guards on duty. A bit paraniod about safety, they clear the lake at teh first sign of thunder and dont allow anyone back until 30 mins after the last rumble.

My 9-yr-old is not much of a hiker, but he had a great time slogging through the water along the Gorge trail to Taughannock Falls. It is 3/4 of a mile to the Falls and even on a very hot day it was fun to walk upstream and chase the little minnows/tadpoles as we went. I recommend wearing some kind of water shoe or "surf sock" because you are walking along a rocky stream bed and some of it was quite slippery. I noticed that people who were wearing flip flops were having a hard time. It is surprisingly hot and sunny in the Gorge so wear some sunscreen. My 16-yr-old had fun too. For the $8.00/car State Park parking fee a great value and not to be missed.

Even though we visited during the dry season and saw a mere trickle of water coming over the falls, it was well worth the drive & hike. The lower hiking path along the river is well maintained, and offers continuous opportunity to wade into the river.

The park is a nice place to spend a day or two. The trails throughout the park are nice and the main attraction is the waterfall itself. It's fun to walk up the creek bed to the waterfall. Besides the hiking, the park offers a little, well-supervised beach, fishing pier, and playground for the kids. Plenty to keep busy.

The campgounds are simple enough and quite cheap. The only thing is that the campsites are very rocky and absolutely no privacy or separation between the sites. But simple enough to affordably pitch a tent for the weekend.
