....definitely plan to attend. Best acoustics in the area, interesting building, and venue for a couple of super orchestras.

Went to a concert here, Cherish the Ladies - Celtic Christmas concert, and we had a great time. You'd be hard pressed to find a "bad" seat in the house when it comes to vantage points of the stage. We were 6 rows back from the stage on the right center seats and felt like part of the show.
The architecture of this old historic building (1875) is marvelous inside and has been acclaimed as one of the top concert halls in the country for acoustics since it was built and still receives such accolades today.
The only complaint I had at all was the poor quality of the seats themselves. We saw several experienced viewers of concerts here bring cushions to sit on and we wish we had known to do the same. Our butts were hurting after a couple hours on those seats. Otherwise, this place is wonderful and I will definately be happy to return for more shows here armed with my own seat cushion. This place is a gem for the NY Capital Region!

So far the shows at the Troy Music Hall have been wonderful. They always seem to get class acts and the price is a good deal for what you get. They have seriously scrimped on the seating however. Hard as rocks chairs so if you are attending a long show, you might want to bring some padding.

Go to the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall if you are hearing acoustic music or mild Jazz. The venue is known for having some of the finest acoustics in the Northeast, and you can hear everything even if unamplified. If amplified (rock, loud jazz, etc), it can be too much. On the downside, the seating is some of the most uncomfortable I've ever experienced. I am moderately tall (6 feet even), and can barely squeeze my legs into any of the seats. Friends often reserve a box, where you get an actual chair to sit in. If not for the super crowded (and also very hard) seating, this would be a fantastic venue. As it is, I much prefer going to the Egg in Albany. If the show has an intermission, snacks are available. A parking garage (free at night) is located about 3 blocks away if you don't mind walking.

The Troy Music Hall is simply one of the best places to go for live music in the world,as long as you are into classical, jazz, or folk. Loud rock bands don't work there because the acoustics are so good. The seats aren't always comfortable and parking can be a problem, but the experience is well worth it.
