“Senior Couple at wedding”
Reviewed September 24, 2013

Beautiful Grounds, and excellent wedding accommodations.
Rita (Manager) and Steven (Bell man) were the most helpful.

4:00pm check in is bad after travelling a long distance.

Expensive breakfast, and no recommendations for lunch on site upon arrival.

Parking not convenient to rooms, and when raining, it was miserable.

Not senior or handicap friendly (Many hills, and therefore stairs).

Early check-in requested and denied. Owner/ manager discussion after discussing 'early check in request' was not very professional.

1st night - 'un requested' wake up call at 2:20am
2nd day - room not cleaned.....requested 3 additional times. Manager finally had room cleaned at 9pm.
2nd night - maintenance man knocked on door at 11:20pm to 'fix toilet'. But there was not a problem, and we had not reported any problems.

If everyone has this kind of service, you will be unhappy.

Dear Jeanne Lesiure:

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and opinions on your family's wedding weekend.

Apologies that we were not able to accommodate your late morning check in, due to the bedrooms still being occupied. We did review the audio and video recordings of the desk trying to accommodate you despite the profanity levied against our dedicated professionals at the service desk.

Our apologies that Housekeeping saw your "Do Not Disturb" as an indication that you did not want housekeeping at that time. We are pleased that both Rita and Steven were able to rectify this for you.

We do see bell services were offered to you on multiple occasions as our layout and historic buildings require much walking; we are sorry that you did not wish to avail yourself of this complimentary service.

Although our estate appears not conducive to your needs, when your travels take you back to the Historic Hudson Valley, there are numerous smaller roadside chain hotels/motels which offer clean and simple rooms without the need for vast gardens, buildings and outdoor recreation.

I recently stayed at the Tarrytown House for a wedding and was extremely impressed. The hotel, the grounds and the staff were absolutely excellent. Our room was in the King Tower (older building) and we on the top floor with a roof patio which gave us clear views of the skyscrapers in Manhattan, which was amazing! I had no idea you could see the city from here. The wedding was on the stone patio and was probably the most beautiful setting for a wedding with all the lush greenery, the river and the setting sun. Very special place. The reception was in the adjacent ballroom which was perfectly sized and very intimate for our gathering of 120 people. Everything at this hotel was just perfect! Great job!
Walt Strasser

Room Tip: Can see Manhattan from roof top suites with balconies in the old building.

Upon arrival to Tarrytown House Estates, I was in awe over the property, and the grounds, so picturesque, and immersed with history, after check in, my husband was exhausted after our 5 hour trip from Virginia so he took a nap while I walked the grounds, I searched the entire property, read every sign about each building when it was built, and why. The entire staff was friendly, and inviting, our room was a tad bit small for the upgrade to the King Mansion, but I was still quite happy staying in the Mansion, built in 1840, it felt as though the walls could talk to me. The evening we had dinner at Cellar 49 which was delicious, the dining room though was a bit dark for my liking but I understood the reason behind the ambiance, it is a Cellar after all, and I enjoyed my lamb chops, they were cooked to perfection. I would suggest a larger dessert menu, I chose the cheesecake lollipops but I would of rather had the cheesecake itself or a piece of chocolate cake would of been a nice accompaniment to the after dinner drinks. The next morning we headed down to the Biddle Mansion for breakfast before heading out, the staff was so pleasant, and made it very simple with no rush, and the buffet was delicious with a large selection! The only problem I had with my stay is it wasn't long enough, and I plan to be back!

Husband and I were looking for quick getaway this weekend. Found a last minute deal that included breakfast and $25 voucher per person for Cellar 49. Only took us an hour to get there from the city. Checking in was a breeze with Sean, the manager. He also gave us complementary drink vouchers. Room was very clean and loved the king size bed. Went to have dinner at Cellar 49 and food and service was superb. The divers scallops was to die for amazing. I highly recommend checking this place out.

Quite frankly, I was disappointed with the Tarrytown House when I stayed there at the beginning of September. My husband and I went there to celebrate a special milestone, and thought this would be an "over the top" wonderful place to do so. FIrst, to be fair, I will say that the grounds are beautiful, our room was nicely furnished and clean, the breakfast was very good with fresh fruits and gluten-free options as well as the usual omelets, pancakes, etc. However, when you look at the picture that is featured on their website, it gives the impression you are staying in a grand old building with elegant touches. Instead this is basically a hotel conference center with stairs in inconvenient places and a labyrinth to navigate from point A to point B. I'd hate to think what it is like to check in when it is raining. For the high price we paid, this place did not "knock my socks off". Yes, it is nice, but I've stayed in nicer hotels for half as much that truly did "knock my socks off". If the price was a lot less, I would consider staying there again, but not we felt this establishment was overrated and overpriced.

Dear Irene W:

Thank you for not only being our guest but taking the time to share your opinions with our fans on Trip Advisor.

We are so glad you enjoyed our grounds and people and rest assured during inclement weather all guest rooms can be accessed by our interior corridors. Although our 173 year old Estate is comprised of 12 buildings dotting 26 acres for those guests with mobility challenges we have specially equipped rooms just off the lobby available upon request.

I hope you enjoyed the Rockefeller Kykuit package and please remember there are numerous other attractions to see in our historic area when your travels take you back.

What a fabulous stay at the beautiful Tarrytown House Estate. Who knew there was such a wonderful destination so close to New York City? The grounds and rooms were well maintained and lovely. I would have asked to stay in the King's mansion had I known the rooms there were all individually decorated and filled with period pieces. Next time... I am definitely returning! There is so much to see and do near Sleepy Hollow - and to stay here just adds to the charm.

Room Tip: Ask for a map and best route to the dining rooms! Lots of corridors among the different wings. (Eas...
