This is one of the best restaurants in the Hunter and Tannersville area... because of that, unfortunately, it gets very crowded on weekends and during popular weekday evenings.

The whole place is decorated with antique farm implements, musical instruments and early 20th century photos...all of which are for sale. They also have an amazing gourmet shop with hundreds of cheese, pate, local maple syrups and honeys and a chocolate selection to die for.

PROS: Good for skiers, families, fantastic beer list, good prices, great ambiance, great food, and really cool gourmet shop
CONS: Usually crowded

Terrible service. Really terrible service. Had a bad experience there and we'll never go again. Besides, the prices are high, and the food is OK - but not great. Too bad because it's a cute looking restaurant. Hunter doesn't have too many restaurants, but I'd avoid this one. Spend your money and time elsewhere.

We decided to get a quick bite to eat at the Last Chance on our first night arriving in nearby Haines Falls after our flight from the UK and long drive up from JFK airport. We were greeted and invited to sit where ever took our fancy. A polite and cheerful waitress soon came to take our drinks order, although we needed a little more time to peruse their extensive list of both imported and domestic beer. The experience turned a little sour however when our food arrived. I ordered a lasagne which was fine but my partner ordered the ribs which were found to be cold on the underside and in the centre. At this stage the waitress became somewhat elusive and it was 5 minutes before she reappeared so we could report the problem. She took it away to presumably have it zapped in the microwave and returned shortly - however it was still not heated through and this time my partner decided she no longer wanted the dish as I had by now almost finished my meal and we were both tired from our trip. To be fair the waitress was fine about it and we were not charged for this item, but it still added up to a slightly disappointing first meal in the Catskills area.

There is an evolution going on, as the food service replaces the funky antiques decour, and its to the good. Their 2 daily homemade soup specials are always pleasing. My wife loves the sandwiches (the buffalo chicken wrap is great) and the or the baked brie cheese, while I favor the entrees, such as the meatloaf or burgers. The beer selection is beyond amazing, over 100 very interesting imported brews. Salads are always fresh. The portions are big, so we rarely have the deserts, but enjoy them when we do. The service is always friendly, fast and cheerful. We make it a point to stop at Last Chance when we pass thru Tannersville. Take away their special mustard; we always try to keep some on hand.

We went here for soup and pie in the afternoon and returned in the evening for a wine and cheese pairing followed by dinner. All items were delicious and the service was great both times.
