“Good but not excellent food”
Reviewed September 18, 2013

I feel like I should have liked this place more, but I wasn't overly impressed by the food. I had the split pea soup, which was very good, and a potato knish with cheddar, which was average. My husband liked his meal (can't remember what it was), and he thought it was good but not excellent. They do have an incredibly extensive beer menu and an adorable little store with all sorts of old-timey country items for sale and a good looking deli counter. It's worth a visit if you're in the area, but I would say to avoid the potato knish.

“Pleasant Surprise”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

I was expecting much more of a bar and less of a restaurant when we stopped at the Last Chance, the only think open in Tannersville on a weekday evening in August. While the "beverage" offerings were very good - terrific organic cider - the menu was surprisingly varied and the food very good. My meatloaf was as good as I have had - and furnished lunch for the next day - with real mashed potatoes and a good vegetable assortment. The bleu cheese dressing featured some of their excellent bleu cheese. I certainly will go back again. My only complaint would be not much on the menu if the weather had been hot.

“Great Food and Service”
Reviewed September 2, 2013

We were hiking in the area and decided to grab dinner at the Last Chance. The outside seating area was full and we had to eat inside by the bar. The first thing I noticed, was the cheese shop and the unique candies, maple syrups and condiments for sale. The bar also has a huge variety of local and national micro brews.

The menu has some unique cheese dishes including the KNISH-WICH, hot grilled potato knish sandwich with your choice of meat. I ordered the grass fed beef burger with dill cheese. The burger was very big and all of the toppings were fresh, including the crispy dill pickle on the side. I also liked the large sized 16 oz iced tea with orange peel which didn't require a refill. The only downside was the wedge cut french fries. They were a bit chewy and dry, but overall the meal was very good.

The service was attentive and the overall value was very good.

“Loved it!”
Reviewed August 29, 2013

My husband and I ate here both nights..The food is delicious, and if you are vegetarian or concerned about healthful eating, you will have choices....The atmosphere is a lot of fun, you are surrounded by a country store..if you sit in the front at high tables by the window. The rstaurant also has several booths and is charmingly decorated through out!

“Eye Catching and Belly Filling”
Reviewed August 24, 2013

Last Chance is a feast for the eyes, stomach, and ears. The owner, formerly, years ago, from "the City" has put so much care and love into this eating/drinking/music/relaxing establishment. There are antiques (some real, some not) hanging from the ceilings and walls; there are Last Chance-packaged candies, shot glasses, mugs, sodas, baked goods...on, and on, and on. For your stomach, there is a full menu, offering soul-satisfying Jewish-style (and non) meals such as knishwiches (potato knishes sliced in half, filled with pastrami, turkey, etc. Topped with mozzarella cheese and cole slaw), matzah ball soup, hot open turkey, etc. Always a pickle spear on the side that will bring you back to the "olden days". If you want to feed your musical soul, there is live music on the week ends, in the annex next door. The wall of shelves that holds the beer bottles splits and opens up to become the entrance to the bar/music area. Make this your dining stop before or apres-ski, en route to hiking, or anywhere past Tannersville. Your eyes, belly and ears will be happier for it.
