“Awesome weekend...”
Reviewed April 28, 2013

We attended a wedding near Syracuse this weekend and this was one of the hotels the bride and groom had reserved a block of rooms in. We arrived a bit early and found plenty of FREE parking. We wlaked into a spacious lobby and were greeted at the front desk with a friendly smile and attitude. They let us check in early as a room was available.

The room was very clean and appropriately furnished and decorated. The bathroom was a tad small. Really could only accomodate one person at a time.

The bar/dining room provided a place for breakfast/lunch/dinner. The lunch menu was minimal however the breakfast menu was available all day. The bar offered a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Just a word of caution though...the BAR DOES NOT STAY OPEN till 2 AM as one would expect.

Had a wonderful stay here at a reasonable price and would consider staying here again.

We stayed here for a wedding and were pleasantly surprised at the accompdations and upscale room - nicely decorated, beautiful bathroom with Eco-friendly bath products, and comfortable beds. The lobby has a gorgeous old world feel yet is updated and modern. The front desk staff was helpful and we were able to check in early which allowed us settle in while spending more time with family and friends. The restaurant staff was gracious and accommodated our large group and various requests with a smile. All in all, an extraordinarily comfortable and relaxing stay, a pleasant surprise in the heart of Syracuse.

Most disappointing as 2 previous stays as a couple were so wonderful! This time being assigned a room there as an attendee at a Convention was full of mishaps. If not for an extraordinary staff, this rating would have been POOR! 3 of us were put a tiny room with what appeared to be 2 3/4 beds, a completely outdated bathroom-no vanity, next to no space/place to store personal health/hygiene items, with the bathroom door BARELY clearing the toilet. We are 3 people assigned to small room, a tiny closet, room stuffy & stale necessitating the removing of the screen before we could open a window(just on the 2nd floor?!)only to find once it finally cranked out we were viewing roofs/alleys/vents from other sections of the hotel resulting in little to no air flow. Turning on and listening to air-conditioning HUMMMM all night is NOT sleep friendly-particularly as the snow flakes drifted past the window.Of course, there weren't any other rooms available so we had to make do for 4 days & 3 nights. Restaurant prices high with truly a "something for everyone" menu. "Adult beverages" also on the high side and have wait staffs providing excellent & friendly service. Desk folks super polite, efficient, addressed all our needs and did every thing they could to help make our stay more pleasant. But returning to "THE CAVE" each evening was not worth the money we paid for a "boutique hotel" room. BE SPECIFIC about the size room your level for comfort/family/room-mate situation requires when making your reservation.Other "you call this a ROOM?!" colleagues suggested next year we go here for just for cocktails and dinner and "room" elsewhere. Again, if making your own reservations, be specific!! A a couple, we were never disappointed.

Great weekend place! Was there for regional Sweet Adelines conference. Coffee bar off main lobby had great staff and excellent fresh fuit and good assortment of breakfast 'stuff'. Reception desk staff were polite and very hospitable, fast checkin/out. Great location, there is a pizza place down the street with great food...didn't try hotel restaurant. Shower pressure was a bit on the weak side and lighting was a bit poor for make-up application, but other than that.. great place to stay and hope I get to stay there again.

I ordinarily stay with the chains, however a reservation was made for me. It is in a great location, close to the university, medical center, and downtown. Staff at checking genuinely polite and helpful. The room was really nice, and had some personality, older building. Very comfortable king bed, separate room with sitting area and desk, great free wifi. Room was spotless.

Two complaints: a room service tray from someone else sat outside of our door for our entire stay. Also, I needed breakfast before 6:30-no options. Probably a reasonable time to start serving, however wish they had some snack items for sale. Nice brief stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a "king suite". Separate bedroom and sitting room with a desk.

My husband and I stayed overnight at the Genesee to visit our daughter in Syracuse. For us, the most impressive thing about this hotel was the helpfulness of the staff. Upon checking into our room, we found that we had two double beds instead of the requested queen size bed. We immediately called the front desk and our new room keys were brought up to us within ten minutes. When we went downstairs a bit later to go out, the front desk remembered us and asked us if the new room was more comfortable. I can honestly say the service was very good. I was not quite sure what to expect since we had booked our room with a "name your own price" deal.

If you need to stay near Syracuse University or Syracuse Stage, this hotel is extremely convenient. Getting to the University does require walking uphill, but it can be easier than dealing with the parking depending on where you are going on campus. We found the room very small but very clean. It looked like the room we had been given has been recently renovated because the carpeting looked new and the floor in the bathroom was lovely. The lobby area is very nice and as said before, the staff was friendly and helpful. There is a small coffee bar that was staffed in the morning - the coffee was actually not horribly overpriced and was good! They also told us that a shuttle was available to the downtown Syracuse area if we wanted to explore the town.

The downside to this hotel is the price. It is very high (because of its convenient location) and we would not have been comfortable bringing young children to this hotel. We have stayed in several hotels in and around the Syracuse area and feel that for about half the price there are better options if you do not need the level of service the Genesee will give you and if you are willing to drive in and pay for parking.

After driving over 8 hours, we were pretty distraught. My oldest daughter was undergoing emergency surgery at a close by hospital.
I was with my younger daughters and two dogs. After calling several hotels, i was either told no pets allowed or the prices were astronomical. I thought I'd have to sleep in the car.
The Genesee Grande Hotel took a huge weight of my shoulders. My dogs were welcomed and they give a big discount to patients families. The room was very clean, the staff was super nice. What more can I ask for.
All I can say is THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
