“Smoking whether you want to or not!”
Reviewed April 24, 2010

We booked this hotel for the shuttle to the airport as our flight left early. The halls and stairwells stunk of smoke. Our room didn't initially smell of smoke but as the night went on it reeked and I developed a sorethroat from it. There were young people checking in at all hours of the night and the noise didn't stop until 3:30 in the morning. When I complained about the smoking they said that the 3rd floor has smoking at one end. They don't tell you this when you book! It was absolutely disgusting! I wouldn't recommend this to anyone! Thank you for your comments. I am sorry to hear that you experienced an issue during your recent visit. Smoking is not permitted in any area of the building except certain rooms on the 4th floor. In addition, 90 percent of our rooms are smoke free. We limit the number of rooms and keep the rooms in one area to accommodate all guests preferences. Our housekeeping team takes immediate action to deodorize areas that smell of smoke. Unfortunately we cannot control what hours guests check in or out of the hotel however, we do take steps to reduce the amount of noise. Once again thank you for your comments I have passed these along to the appropriate parties to ensure that we are proactive in preventing reoccurrence in the future.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Syracuse Fairgrounds during the Canadian March Break 2010 with two primary school age children and a teenager. When we arrived our family suite for five was not available due to a computer error; but no problem; we were given two rooms, a room with 1 king and an adjoining with 2 double beds. The hotel was quiet and clean, (from the carpet to the bedding it all felt new and fresh)! The hotel is in a great location central to shopping at the Waterloo outlet mall and the Carousel Center. We loved the breakfast buffet and the great swimming pool. The price was great value for our $ and we left after 3 days feeling refreshed and satified. The staff were friendly and efficient. Thank you! We have recommended this hotel to all friends and family and will return again in 2011 for more shopping delights!

We had a memorable experience when we last stayed at this hotel in March 2008 and were flying through to Florida. This time around we found that driving from Ottawa to Syracuse and flying to Seattle then driving up to Vancouver to see the Olympics was the most affordable option for our family. The shuttle service, parking option to leave our car at the hotel and the breakfast capped off a once-in-a-lifetime trip for our family. The hotel room was clean and spacious and the large television was our window to the Olympics opening ceremony. On our return leg of the trip we had originally planned to drive home once we arrived in Syracuse. But due to flight delays we arrived in Syracuse too late to drive home and were fortunate enough that there was space in the hotel and that they covered out cab ride from the airport (no shuttle driver available). We will continue to use this hotel and its stellar amenities and service to capitalize on the US cheap flights!!!! A great hotel for a family (nice pool, breakfast, rooms) but it is in the middle of a field- not super close to the airport but that's ok as it made for a quiet and restful sleep after a long trip for us.

Thank you for your review of our hotel. Our park and fly program has been very popular among Canadian travelers. We know what travelers expect (especially families) and ensure your needs are met while delivering Excellent Service.
Although we realize that our hotel is a 10 minute ride from the airport, we wanted you to leave all your worries behind knowing that your vehicle was safe and that no matter what we would ensure that you made it back to the hotel. Once again thank you for the review and we look forward to seeing you on your next visit to Syracuse!

This hotel is in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by cornfields. You will think it is in Syracuse, or close to it, but downtown is at least 10-12 minutes away by highway. It is absolutely near nothing, and is a much cheaper version of the Wingate by Windham properties. The rooms are very bland with no taste at all and the showers took forever for us to figure out how to turn on. The service was okay, but we reserved a suite, and they thought we reserved two queen beds for two nights. We ended up having to move rooms to a king suite which they could only guarantee for one night. Overall a lousy experience in the middle of cornfields.

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments and concerns regarding your stay with us.

We take your comments very seriously and review them with the department involved to use as a training tool, in the belief that listening to our guests helps us to continuously improve our services. In response to the posting I must apologize. We have taken steps to ensure that the staff fully explains the different room types properly. We are in the process of developing the area around the hotel and at first might seem off the beaten path. We are also working to ensure that there is ample signage to the property for ease of travel.

I hope that we will have the good fortune of having you and your colleagues stay with us in the future. I would like the opportunity to show you that we are capable of giving you the quality of service that will make you want to return, and also to be proud to recommend us to your friends and colleagues. If there is anything further I can do for you please let me know. I can be reached at 315-701-5000

Just spent a great weekend at the Wingate. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean and the pool and hot tub were a plus. From reading other reviews, I was aware that the location was off the beaten path and it definitely was. Looks there are big plans to build an indoor water park next to the hotel which explains it's random location.

The new Wingate by Wyndham may be one of the best little secrets in the Syracuse area.
We have stayed there twice. Both times we were just passing through on the New York State Thruway and arrived late and left early. We found it to be modestly priced and to have many amenities not offered by more expensive hotels – an in-room safe deposit box, a small refrigerator and microwave, composite marble counters in the bathroom, a good flat-panel t.v., and free wireless internet.
The hotel is new and our king room was very large - other chains might call it a suite. It was clean, and well-presented, with a reasonable work area if you bring your laptop. There is also a pleasant business center, and an exercise room that looked well-maintained but we didn’t try it out. There was also a pool that, again, we didn’t have the time to check on. All of this for about $103 a night plus the inevitable taxes.
We also didn’t have time for the complimentary breakfast, either (just passing through both times), but it looked acceptable: cereal, sausages, make-your-own waffles, pastries, and the like.
What’s the catch? The Wingate is literally in the middle of nowhere. Although it is not far from Exit 39 of the Thruway (I-90), unless you have business at the nearby P&C grocery facility, the hotel is located in the equivalent of a field in a local commercial section on the west side of the city. It is not a bad neighborhood – just an empty one. There is one restaurant nearby (“Quaker Steak and Lube”) which is apparently connected to the hotel. Again, we didn’t try it. But for anything else you will need to drive a ways.
If you are going to the New York State Fair at the end of August, however, the Wingate may be one of the most convenient hotels close to the Fair and perhaps the nicest. I assume that the room rates will be adjusted accordingly.

Traveling from Toronto to NYC and wanted a rest mid-drive. The hotel is not exactly in the heart of Syracuse, but it is very well maintained and has great customer service. We checked in very late at night, and it was a quick painless experience.

The continental breakfast was ok, though I wish the hours were not so restrictive, as it would have been nice to have a few more snoozes.
