My husband and I took our two-year-old daughter with us to the mall to shop and check out the new wing. We got a little hungry and decided to grab a bite, Koto was having its happy hour so we decided to stop in for some specials. They sat us at a table (we did not want hibachi) as we obviously could not sit our two year old at the bar with its high seats that she would almost definitely fall from. We asked about the happy hour specials, our waitress (who looked tired and miserable as ever, even though there were only 4 tables to be waited on) replied "You have to be seated at the bar for the specials." Great. we asked if she could make an exception as we were already seated at a table WITH OUR TWO YEAR OLD (yes, I'm sure a stroller would look really classy pulled up to the bar). She went to ask her manager, who told her that we had to sit at the bar, no exceptions. At this point we just didn't care and instead of leaving out of anger, we decided to stay.
If you want average Japanese American food that you will most likely like (because it tastes like every other chain hibachi restaurant) then this place is for you. If you have any small kids with you, or expect a happy, attentive waiter who takes away dirty appetizer dishes and makes you feel welcome. then this is not the place for you. Our waitress was rude, ignored my husband twice as she rushed passed us empty-handed, and seemed genuinely angry that we had complained to her about the fact that had she put us up on the high barstools, our daughter would have probably fallen and injured herself. I will not be going back to this place, and will be letting my Syracuse Moms group know that this is the most unfriendly place I have ever been to. Lastly, the baby changing table is located outside the bathrooms in a hallway leading to the bathrooms, so everybody walking by can watch you clean your tots bottom on their way to the restrooms.
