My wife and I took my 12-year-old grandson to Syracuse to see a college basketball game last weekend - Orange vs the Tarheels. We stayed two nights at the JCH based on favourable trip advisor reviews. We were thoroughly impressed. It is well located in a part of the downtown that has been the focus of some successful renewal -- there are some interesting shops and restaurants close at hand, The hotel is older but it has been reno'd and they did a fine job of it, It has an elegant old-world feel but modern amenities, Every floor has enlarged, framed photos of Syracuse a century ago. Overall, the ambiance is very charming. We got a junior-exec room with two double-beds, which were comfortable and made up with quality linens. The room was spacious and included a complete kitchenette, which we were not really able to take advantage of. The housekeeping service was excellent. The complimentary breakfast was great. There was a lot of choice, the food was fresh and of good quality. There was even an omelet station. It was refreshing to sit down at table with your coffee in a proper mug and to unfurl a cloth napkin to find real utensils. So many hotels sacrifice these touches to expedience and provide disposable plastic everything. As you can see, we really liked the place!

My wife and I discussed it on the way home and agreed that it was the competence, professionalism and caring attitude of the employees that lift this hotel into an exalted category. It would still be an elegant venue even if the staff were just going through the motions. But the staff we met were all very cordial and helpful and willing to take the extra trouble to ensure that guests were happy, The young man on the front desk both nights (sorry I didn't take his name) was super - he provided countless.directions and suggestions, and even went on a late-night forage to find milk for my wife to make her tea.

No hesitation in recommending.

A nicely renovated historic hotel in downtown Syracuse, the JC is blessed with an excellent staff. Our check-in greeting was warm and friendly, and we were given a complimentary upgrade to a spacious room with a kitchenette. The acid test of any hotel is their response to noise complaints. We were awakened at 2 am by noisy partying in a nearby room. A call to the desk produced instant results, as within minutes we heard a hotel employee arrive at the offending suite and shut down the merriment. All in all, staying here was a pleasant experience.

The hotel is located in the Armory Square section of the city, and is within walking distance to great dining opportunities and several bars. The rooms a re clean, well laid out and the property is clearly well cared for. Rubber duckies in the bath are a nice touch. The front desk staff is friendly and helpful, and the morning omelets are to die for (included in the room price).

I have to travel to Syracuse for work and when I do I always stay at Jefferson Clinton. They bend over backward to provide great service - from having truffles and fruit awaiting you at the desk to a Keurig in your room, to an amazing and free breakfast in the morning complete with omelette bar. If I could offer anything they need to do better it would just be some of the bathrooms/furniture/tvs etc. in the rooms are a bit dated. But honestly who cares when you have a such a nice place to stay and the beds and linens are great. A great value and a welcoming warm place to stay.

This is a heritage hotel located in the downtown business area--with many coffee shops, bars, restaurants and boutiques in walking distance and Armory Square which offers skating in the winter and festivals in the summer time... as well as the Science & Technology Museum - IMAX Theatre across the road. Handy location to get to Destiny Mall and antique shops too!
I was impressed the moment we walked into the inviting lobby---there were complimentary fancy chocolates & cookies at the reception desk (as well as the usual fruit assortment)
The staff were friendly, someone was sanitizing the elevator buttons and lobby area when we were heading upstairs (that's an extra bonus mark in my opinion)
When the elevator doors opened we noticed the mat on the floor said "Good Afternoon"---the mats were changed depending on the time of day.
Our room was lovely---very clean and comfortable, and according to the sign in the bathroom, if you forgot shampoo or other small toiletries it was freely available if you asked.
There were towels folded on the side of the tub and sitting on top was a little rubber ducky!
(I took it home for my little granddaughter) Our room had a Queen bed & handy kitchenette.
For single travellors or folks who want to snuggle there are smaller European rooms with double beds.
Free internet, parking and breakfast----as well as free coffee/tea all day...Business corner with free printing & faxing....Free DVD movies to borrow....
There is a fitness area which we usually make use of but did not have time, and access to a free washer/dryer with complimentary detergent should you need it.
There were too many little perks to remember them all!
I loved everything about this hotel! (it doesn't have a pool but there were so many other things we could do and we certainly did not miss it)
Whenever we return to Syracuse, we will make this our permanent hotel of choice!
