Due to allergies, we must stay at a hotel during visits to family in Syracuse. We have enjoyed stays at the Genesee Grande and Parkview Hotels, and chose the new Hotel Skyler because of its efforts to create an ecologically friendly environment. We were not disappointed. This former synagogue and theater has an imposing columned exterior. The large clean open lobby area is very attractive, with a pleasing mix of new and old: streamlined bar, snack area and front desk warmed by beautiful old stained glass panels, wainscoting and numerous details, such as an old newel post salvaged from demolished buildings in upstate New York. Much of the appealing décor uses recycled materials. We felt very welcomed by Brian, the concierge who has been with the Skyler since it opened a year ago. He was incredibly accommodating and helpful, showing us several rooms until we found the one that best suited us., with infinite patience, assuring us that our comfort was the mission of the hotel group. I crave light and favor large windows; we chose a lovely standard king room with a large central window. Since no two rooms are exactly the same (the hotel was full so we couldn’t see all the room types), unique features include twenty-foot high ceilings and huge windows high up or arch shaped. The attractive neutral-colored room had an armchair, desk and chair, dresser, end tables and extremely comfortable bed filled with cushy pillows. We loved the bathroom, especially the unusual shower (no tub)-easy to walk into, with a very large stainless disk as shower head, no curtain or door, just a glass insert to keep the water contained. Really lovely, and the shower was bliss! Towels could have been softer. Toiletries are all eco-friendly, as are all cleaning agents –I could smell the difference-no sweet-smelling artificial fresheners. Brian offered to give us a personal tour, showing us the various measures they have taken to earn the highest environmental rating, from geo-thermal heating and air conditioning to recycled glass counters to soap with a hole in the middle. The key card for room entry activates the electricity in the room. There is also a large private open patio off the lobby, a great place to sit on a balmy Syracuse evening and talk or enjoy one their organic beverages. There is no restaurant, but a variety of interesting ethnic restaurants is nearby. We look forward to coming back!

What a treat we give this Hotel a top rating. We definitely would stay here again the service was five star and the room was clean and spacious the bathroom was a spectacular. There didn't seem to be eateries within walking distance but the area seems under revitalization so that should improve in time.

We had a very serviceminded and friendly staff assistance from booking through check-in to restaurant suggestions and check-out. The rooms are fresh and very nicely designed. It was a great stay in Syracuse where we never been before. To recommend is Dinosaur BBQ in the city, where we enjoyed both the food, the beer and the great live music.

Lovely hotel in an old church! Sounds weird, but it's not!! A great use of space!! Evidently the owners refurbishes old buildings (churches especially) in to hotels. His is a must stay. Our room was lovely and traditional. Service was spectacular and the hotel very, very clean and hip!

An interesting property that is attractive inside and out. Room size and shape is a bit odd and get ready to stay on the ground floor. Bathro is nice and good size. Worth spending a night when you're in Syracuse.
