Reducing one star cos of the waiter.
Food was great and economical too. It's a small restaurant. We went there 3 days after Hurricane Sandy on Halloween's day. The place was busy with people placing a lot of to-go orders. When you step into the restaurant, you will see about 7-8 tables on the right side. Towards the left is the cashier and the place where they make all the Turkish delicacies. Keep in mind, the ambiance is so-so. My wife and I stepped in and saw a bunch of people sitting on the tables. The Waiter was not to be seen. Towards the left was bunch of people ordering food. Since the waiter wasn't available, I stepped towards the left and asked the cashier about the dishes shown in the picture on the wall, and finally decided to go with Lamb & Chicken Gyro; Chicken Kebab and Hummus. The cashier for some reason thought that mine was a to-go order. I paid cash and looked at the bill to find that it was a to-go and said that it was for here. He said he will change it . We found a table on the right. The table was not cleaned up and had left over food from before. By that time, the waiter somehow showed up from nowhere. We asked him to clean the place. He went ahead and cleaned it up and then he found that we had already placed the order with the cashier and paid the bill. His face changed immediately and was not happy with what I said. I guess he thought he would not get a tip. Anyhow, we got seated. He didn't ask on the type of drink that we wanted. I asked him water and he got it for is. The food came within 5 minutes. The waiter didn't offer for a dressing that goes with the gyro (which i found only when i finished from a couple sitting in the next table)., So the gyro was a lil dry for me. I would still give it a high rating. The hummus and the home made bread was tasty. My wife loved the Chicken kebab & rice as well. After having the food, the waiter stopped by to ask if we need dessert and we said yes and his face brightened up. We ordered baklava and that was tasty too.
The price was great too, very economical in NY and compared to the pricey restaurants. Our bill came to 25 $.
Chicken kebab & rice - 8.5
Lamb and Chicken gyro with home made bread - 8.5
Hummus - 4
Backlava - 4
I also found that there is only one waiter. i also found him to clear the left over food from the table and soon going and getting the food from the kitchen, which is not hygienic. I guess this maybe the same story with all waiters, I hope not!!
