We had dinner here again last night. My date had the shrimp fajitas and I had the vegetable burritos combination plate. Both were excellent. Sometimes I get the Mole Poblano with chicken-also fabulous!
The chips and salsa to start are always warm chips and freshly made salsa. The interior is interesting-the restaurant feels like it was originally designed to be a British men's club and then was converted to a restaurant. It feels warm with all of the wood. Overall-great service, wonderful food.

Had a decent meal - was a little pricey for what you get. Okay though not what expected. More money than I thought it would be.

I can't believe that people are saying this is the best Mexican food around. It is okay, but extremely overpriced for what you get. $15 for an enchilada? Really??

I am a chef and I have eaten at all the Mexican restaurants in Suffern and found this one to be the tastiest. The size of the appetizer was pretty substantial. I generally don't care for most Mexican restaurants rice and beans but found this restaurants to be very good. Service was very good too. I cant wait to return and try other dishes.

Suffern NY apparently has a sizeable Hispanic population and also has a surprising number of Mexican and other Central and South American restaurants as well. On a previous visit two years ago, we had a phenomenal meal with excellent service at Hacienda Don Miguel. However, in view of several recent lackluster Trip Advisor reviews of that establishment, we opted to try Tequila Sal y Limon instead, which turned out to be a big mistake.

The food at Tequila is simply not as good. All dishes sampled seemed to be far less flavorful and complex, although it was difficult to fathom whether that was simply the house style or a considered effort to dumb-down the food por los gringos. At least on the Saturday evening we were there, the clientel consisted entirely of non-Hispanic diners, so maybe their menu strategy is successful.

The group service was brisk, efficient, but wholly impersonal, with no effort whatsoever to interact or make eye contact with their customers. Given the small footprint and limited seating capacity, their game plan is apparently to try to get diners seated, fed, and out the door as quickly as possible. It works well, but gracious dining it is not.

FWIIW, the decor seems to consist wholly of statues and images of sacrificial Mayan virgins at Chichen Itza. Whether this indicates a misogynist inclination on the part of management or simply a bizarre sense of humor was not entirely clear, but the historical references are in any event probably totally lost on the white-bread middle-class Americans who seem to make up their primary clientele.

On my next trip to Suffern, I will give Hacienda Don MIguel another try. Even if the food and service has declined somewhat, as recent reports seem to indicate, it is probably still far better than Tequila Sal y Limon.
