Our stay at The Stony Brookside Bed & Bike was just perfect. Elyse and Marty were absolutely wonderful hosts and their expert knowledge of the routes in the area ensured we got to do some really excellent biking.
We specifically came to the Inn to do a cycling vacation. We took our bikes on the LIRR from Brooklyn (which was very easy) and rode to the Inn from Stony Brook Station. Marty and Elyse have a book of bike routes varying in difficulty and length and sat with us and planned a route tailored to our needs. One of the rides we decided to do took us through picturesque villages, a lovely beach, and ended at a vineyard. Road surfaces were all pretty good and most of the roads we took either had a dedicated bike lane, or were very quiet to car traffic.
We stayed in the Village Room which was cosy and had everything we needed. Breakfast was hearty and filling, exactly what we needed to fuel up before our rides. The Inn itself is really pretty and has comfy communal spaces and a garden overlooking a stream and an old grist mill.
We had dinner in Stony Brook Village at the Mirabelle – the fixed price menu there was really great value. And we also visited the Harmony Vineyards just 10 mins from the Inn, which was lovely (the wine wasn't anything too exceptional, but the vineyard itself is definitely worth a trip).
The Stony Brookside Inn is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a relaxing place to stay that's also a fantastic jumping off point for really good rides. That being said, the Inn, village and its surrounding area also make a great spot for anyone looking for a weekend getaway.
