“NYC Steak house on Staten Island”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 14, 2012

Had an amazing meal @ Ruddy & Dean on Saturday night with 7 friends... The steaks were aged and delicious; the appetizers were amazing and the wine list was a hidden gem... we had the pleasure to be served by a young waitress who's name was Laura & this girl can handle a room... pleasant, smart & cheerful... Great place for families, couples & tourisat coming off the Ferry from Manhattan

“Good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2012

We went here for lunch, the sandwiches are great - huge, well filled (quantity- and quality wise), plus you get great fries with them. Enough dishes on the menu to choose from. The waitress was very kind. Cozy atmosphere, a long bar, booths available. Only negative thing: refills on soda are not free. Prices are average.
Would go again :-)

“Excellent NY Steakhouse on S.I. with a short walk to the Ferry”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 17, 2012

The place...
reminds me of what steakhouses use to be like in Manhattan, before the chains took over. Bar up front with plenty of breathing room, a case of dry aging beef over on the side, and a back dining room with no pretensions. Booths are to the side and table seating up one step, both are adequately comfortable. On both nights a group was accommodated without becoming a mob scene (no pun intended), one group was mix of adults and children, the other was a group of guys celebrating the 70th birthday party for one of their ex fellow workers. There is a Precinct next door, so the area is safe, although parking can be a bit of a challenge. Manhattanites who are tired of the Uncle Jack's type of places would find the adventure across on the ferry a profitable one. Very short walk to the terminal.

The food...
all three soups on the menu are first class: home made Lobster Bisque & New England Clam Chowder come in large bowls, and the crock of French Onion was great prep for the Dry Aged Steak. A variety of fresh oysters were available. The menu has a good variety of cuts of beef, and a nice mix of fish which is helpful for those who don't do meat. Friends had the Scallops, and both raved at how perfectly they were prepared. For those who do beef, the Dry Aged Strip or the T-Bone for 2 will give u deep satisfaction. Beef short ribs over mashed potatoes was also quite good. Osso Bucco special was plentiful and rich, but a bit dry. Wine list is nice with a good number of interesting choices at a reasonable price. Waitress pointed out some recently added wines. Service was very good, if a bit slow (one waitress handled all the tables on one of the two nights I visited) but this is not a place to eat and run. A number of couples were there on both nights, and the booths on the left are adequately private, without being hidden. Cheese cake is fantastic! I'm going back this thursday and hope the Cajun Rib Eye special is still available. Will let u know!

“At last a delicious alternative to the overpriced Steak Houses in Manhattan!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 6, 2011

On Sunday, September 4, 2011, I went to Staten Island with my family for the sole purpose of having a quality steak dinner at an affordable price. I drove from the Inwood section of Manhattan to Staten Island (could've taken the Ferry) -- and I was not disappointed! Rudy & Dean is a no nonsense establishment with courteous service and a relaxed atmosphere. I had a great Bloody Mary (homemade horseradish!!); the oysters were fresh; mother's New England clam chowder was delicious (with homemade bacon bits). My spouse and I shared a Porterhouse steak that was cooked to perfection; its quality right up there with pricier cuts in Manhattan. The homemade steak relish (loved it); sides of sautéed spinach, sautéed onions with mushrooms complimented our steak very nicely. Our chocolate desserts were delicious too. Ruddy & Dean delivered a steak dinner on par with the best in Manhattan, at an affordable, reasonable price. Thank you, Danny and Staff, I will be back.

“Delicious!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2011

My husband and I caught the ferry over (Free!!) and after looking at the memorial for the people who had died in 9/11 from Staten Island, decided to have a little wander round, we first went into a bar which wsa offering food - as a bar it was great the bartender was completely mad but the atmosphere was great and very welcoming, however not really what we wanted for dinner. We carried on wandering and came across Ruddy & Dean we could not have chosen better, the waitress was so friendly, with a good knowledge of the menu, the service was excellent and the food fabulous both in taste and portion size, We had oysters to start with, which were on par with Grand Central Terminal, followed by steak - mine stuffed with blue cheese yummy! and guess what there were vegetables and a decent portion!!! Even though we didn't really have room we squeezed in a desert and I'm so pleased we did it was delicious> All in all well worth a trip and on our next visit we will definitely go back again- enjoy!!
