We stayed at Harbor House over Memorial Day Weekend. We wanted to do NYC on a budget, but with two preschoolers, we couldn't risk being in an unsafe place in Manhattan. We settled on HH and got a great rate. Molly, the innkeeper, was awesome. The place was safe and clean. It was not luxurious, nor was the rooms overly big. However, it WAS worth the price and exceeded our expectations.
Note: If you stay here, it WILL take you at least an hour to get to Manhattan. It's a 5-10 minute ride to the ferry, then a 1-30 minute wait for the ferry, then a 28 minute fery ride to Manahattan. Plus, the subway/cab ride to wherever you are going.
Staten Island was not as nice as I expected, but Harbor House was one of the nicest things on the island. We ate at the Iguana restaurant, and it was awesome.
