Owner description: The mansion is beautiful, but the real appeal is in the hundreds of acres overlooking the Hudson River.

My girlfriend and I went here for a day trip to do something relaxing. When you first approach this beautiful living space it was quite a sight to see. The architecture if the inside, detailing, And preserving of artifacts was outstanding. To think that people used to live that way is pretty wild!! Learning about the families from my area who lived there as well as picturing and feeling the earlier centuries time can never be replaced. It was a nice small tour from a great woman! Only 8$ a person!

We arrived around 10:30 for a tour, which was very nice, tour guide gave a great background of the family who owned it and their place in history. Beautiful grounds, plus as an added bonus, there was a huge car show on the grounds. Only down side is the condition of main house and NY State seems to be letting the outbuildings slide into ruin. There are a couple of brick buildings that could be saved and adapted for other uses, restaurants and B&Bs, it is a shame!!

The house doest't present as well as the Vanderbilt Mansion but is more interesting inside.
The place is a bit down at heel but is charming nonetheless.
To think that at one time people could lavish that much money on a little used vacation property boggles the mind.
Rivals Newport in opulence, but lacks the visitors to provide the needed funds for proper upkeep.

Christmas, especially at Mills Mansion is a must for the Victorian Tree and Table . Setting grand too as is is on the Hudson. House Tour and History quite 'engaging'.

We visited during the end of December 2012 and were fortunate enough to visit during the Gilder Age Christmas tour period. The mansion was beautifully attired and bedecked for the holiday season. The size of this Greek Revival mansion is just incredible but we where said to see that a lot of rooms were still be restored and or showing very visible signs of age. This is one site that should be funded more generously. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and my only complaint was that they did not open on time as stated on the web site. We did not enjoy the grounds as fully as we could due to the cold but what we did see was just amazing. The views really need to be fully explored and we hope to do so in the near future.
