“May 2013 Stink Bugs!!!”
Reviewed August 6, 2013

Reserved room in building up the road from main house. At first it seemed okay, other than being a good 10 miles from Ithaca and in the middle of nowhere... But the room was full of stink bugs. We did not stay.

Dear Sjplb85,

Thank you very much for your review. We completely understand your concerns and appreciate you taking the time to voice them. Because we are surrounded by 7,000 acres of State Forest it is very difficult to keep creatures away from our Inn at all times--I suppose this comes with the territory of living in the wilderness. I assure you that the stink bugs were immediately taken out of the room and placed back outside in their natural habitat.

Again, we apologize for any disappointment this may have caused you, and we would love to have you another time--this time without any extra company waiting for you in the room.

Best,

Log Country Inn Staff

The SECOND best thing about visiting our son is to stay with Wanda Gruenberg, hostess extraordinaire of the Log Country Inn. TVs are in sitting areas and not in the rooms, but the rooms are so charming and the breakfasts so delicious, you will soon find that point moot.

Great place, very special and homey. Wanda is an amazing host.
The breakfast is very good, including amazing "blincheses".
One thing to keep in mind - in one of the cabins, there are sulfur water in the shower, can be a bit challenging :-)

Wanda's Inn is in the woods and a few miles away from the town, it very quiet and each log hut/suite is furnished with great care to a country theme. We stayed at the Russian Jacuzzi Suite and enjoyed the experience very much. This quaint suite has two bedrooms, a living area and a well equipped kitchen, besides the jacuzzi. Our children were delighted with the resident pony, the swings, the pet cat and the winding trails in the woods. It's well worth a visit.

In early January my wife and I stayed for a night in the Japanese Jacuzzi suite. I loved the inn, and Wanda's apprentice was so kind and cooked us an amazing breakfast! Then he walked us around the entire house and grounds, telling us stories of he and the owners lives. It was really sweet, and if you are looking to be away from town this is a good location, only about 15-20 minutes from Ithaca.

We stayed over Labor Day weekend this year, and rented the Russian Jacuzzi Suite for ourselves and our 2 dogs. Another couple - friends of ours - stayed in the Japanese Jacuzzi Suite at the same time. We all enjoyed the grounds - Wanda was super-accepting of dogs, even letting the run around off-leash on the property and joining us in the main room for breakfast each morning. That meant a lot.

The breakfasts were very hearty and filling, but they were a little quick to scoot us away from the table after we were done (I believe this was done in order to make room for more guests - if all her rooms were rented, there would be no way everybody would fit around the breakfast table, so she has to stagger the eating times).

Quick trip in/out of Ithaca, and a fully-stocked kitchen in our room allowed us to stay in one night and make dinner.

We will definitely be back!

I've now stayed at Wanda's Log Country Inn twice: first with a group of friends in 2005, and more recently I stayed on my own, while visiting with friends in Ithaca, NY. In 2005, about 10 of us stayed in the "silk road" building, sharing a large kitchen (with nice windows and a view of the meadow), two living room spaces, and several bathrooms and bedrooms. We all raved about the Inn. It is clean and is warmly decorated. She has free wireless in the main house.
Wanda makes delicious breakfasts: blinis, potato pancakes, eggs, fresh fruit, all really wonderful. She is flexible and kind, and provides a relaxed atmosphere. This year, traveling on my own, I asked to stay in a small room in the log cabin (the main building) and it was very nice and quiet. One can hike the area around, and it is about 15 minutes to town by car. She also welcomes pets.
