“Just like Home”

With multiple family members in the fingerlakes area my husband and I like to try and stay in a centrally located spot and this B&B fits the bill. We are able to travel to Ithaca, Owego, Watkins Glen, Corning and Syracuse, just to name a few of the areas, to visit our family without having to continually pack up and find somewhere's else to stay. We have always found the owners, Bea and Sterling, to be as accomodating as possible as well as their helpers. The rooms come with different types of ammenities, and all but one with an attached private bath, however our favorite is the Queen Suite. It runs the entire side of the house and has an attached sitting room and private bath as well as 2 t.v.'s and a small refridgerator. Another plus here are the breakfasts which are typically 3 course and they try their hardest to accomodate your breakfast needs. We don't typically spend alot of time hanging about but make it a point to arrive before the hot tub which is open to all guests gets shut down for the night so they can perform the required chemical services. We also don't require the time spent by the owners and their staff covering area events, handing out maps and brochures and shortcuts to help their guests see as much of the attractions in the area as possible during their stay but it certainly is great to see people really being helpful. This B&B truly lives up to its name.

Bea & Sterling Fulmer, owners of Slice of Home, were so accommodating during our recent stay in The Annex portion of their B&B. It is worth spending the little bit of extra money to reserve The Annex. Wonderful large room with king bed, private bath & extraordinary private deck and hot tub. If you need maps, brochures, menus for local attractions, it's all there waiting for you and Bea is more than willing to point you in the right direction. Breakfast room is charming and gourmet food was unique and much appreciated.

We met cousins here as this was the half way pt between our states. We were not sorry! We stayed in the Lilac unit and loved being able to literally feel at home. Wonderful chance to visit between the four of us who stayed here plus our two cousins who decided to go the camping route nearby. Bea and Sterling were great hosts and gave us some wonderful hints for sightseeing stops. The breakfasts were fantastic and different each of the three days we were there, altho we all will now need to "hit the gym" to trim in some.

Room Tip: For small family gatherings where one might want to fix lunch/dinner meals-take the cottage. It is v...

Loved the furnishings, scenery, ambiance and location of this property. We rented the entire place - 4 rooms on the second floor (2 with private baths), and the owners room on the first floor with private bath, and the little cottage a few feet away with 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. We also rented the log cabin a few miles away. The log cabin was the overall winner here! All amenities, scenery, peace, and furnishing at the log cabin were fabulous. The B&B was run well but the owners were a bit too hands-on and had many rules (don't bring the towels from the 2 hot tubs inside, don't sit early for breakfast, etc.) We thought we had the living room but found the owners using it. 2 hot tubs, a great deck and hearty, hearty, delicious breakfasts. The owners stay in this house unless someone is renting their room then they move into their little room 50 feet away. Nice owners!! Great value.

Room Tip: All rooms have exquisite furnishings but I would choose a room with a private bath. But don't t...

We booked A slice of Home on a Saturday and Sunday for a weekend away.at the Finger Lakes. What we got was not what we expected. There was a distinct lack of warmth from the hostess. We inquired about the advertised Hot Tub and she showed us a soft sided tub that I see sold a flea markets, We would have to uncover it (with very specific instructions), could not use it after 930 PM and could only stay in it for 20 minutes (or we might damage our capillaries( ???) and had to use specific towels for the tub. We passed.
Our room felt like I was staying in my Uncle Frank's attic when I was a kid. Dark paneling and a tiny TV (while we didn't come for the TV it was an old TINY TV positioned on a chest that was hard to see from the bed) Everything was clean including the bathroom, which had multiple signs about the fan, water and towel use (take Long naps and short showers read one). OK, all this could be overlooked, because the room was clean and private.
**Note beware of renting Room 3 because the bathroom is downstairs with the door in the kitchen.
What really didn't do it for us was the breakfasts. It is after all a "B&B"
When we booked the trip, we told them that my girlfriend is allergic to strawberries. The hostess even mentioned it when we checked in assuring us everything would be taken care of. For our first breakfast, we were served a fruit bowl, and my girlfriend's bowl had no strawberries or bananas. She asked why no bananas and was told that they thought it that she was also allergic to bananas. She told them no, and that she would like some, but none were forthcoming (we shared mine). Breakfast was a quiche that was indistinct and not very good. Juice was also available.
The second morning only got worse. We were served a yogurt parfait with berries. It appeared to have strawberries and we asked and were told "of course not". Well guess what? On the second spoonful, my girlfriend bit into a strawberry. We immediately told them and they seemed clueless, A hive started on her lip immediately. The next course was a (one 1) rolled up pancake, And guess what it was stuffed with?? STRAWBERRY PRESERVES!!! When brought to their attention they substituted a (one) plain pancake rolled around nothing and drenched in syrup. No juice was available this morning. No apologies were ever offered about their repeated dietary mistakes.
The breakfast room is by far the nicest room in the place. If only the rest of the place was as nice. I would have been good if the breakfasts were as tasteful as the room.
One further note, they advertise a "cottage" for rent, when it is in fact a single wide trailer. Now while it may be nice inside, I was put off by the fact that it was advertised as a "Cottage" when it clearly is not.
Needless to say, I won't be back.

Room Tip: Don't stay here

Whew! After reading this review, even I wouldn't stay here. However, as the Owner, I would like to say that this review is a great surprise - these guests HAVE STAYED HERE BEFORE, so why would they come back if they felt this way? Why would they remark about other units when theirs was newly renovatd last year - it has no paneling. The only wood in our house is real oak.
The one thing I wish to comment on is that yes, we did make a mistake on the yogurt..and apologized to our guest the second we realized our mistake. Our guest was OK with it and said she has no recation- and we all joked about it. Our fresh fruit crepes are large - and everyone is encouraged to have more.

I don't wish to comment on each item, let's just say that lots of the comments are not in the least bit true. Our guests need to be happy, so we have sent them a full refund.

PLEASE read our other reviews -- our 184'0's house has many antiques and really likes visitors.

Great place to stay if visiting the Finger Lakes area or local colleges in Ithaca. Single rooms available in main house and cottage available with two bedrooms each with its own bathroom. Fifteen minutes from Ithaca. Thirty minutes to Watkins Glen. Very clean and quiet. Owners very nice and knowledgeable of area. Also near wineries and Corning.

Room Tip: Cottage great if you are traveling with two couples because there are two bathrooms and one common l...

My friend and I were travelling through the finger lake area on motorcyle, finishing up a 5 day tour through Pa and NY. On Saturday evening at about 8:00pm as we stopped for gas in Spencer NY, her rear tire went flat. With the help of a very nice young man named Ross we tried to use "fix-a-flat" to get us to our motel about 30 miles away but -no luck!
We soon discovered there were no motorcyle repair shops near-by or even open until monday morning. It looked like we were stranded (we also discovered AAA will not help with motorcyle problems if you do not have an RV policy). I rode back up to the B&B we just passed (A Slice of Home) to see if they had a room. Although they did not have any available rooms, it was such a blessing meeting Bea and Sterling. They took us in, gave us a room in the private extention of their home, and allowed us to stay until the tow truck arrived the next day. They graciously opened up their home, served us breakfast and made sure we were taken care of until our problem was resolved. The house and grounds were very clean, and scenic. I will definitely stay here again under normal conditions and recommend the place to anyone looking for a clean, relaxing and very friendly place to stay in the finger-lake area. Thank you again Bea and Sterling!
