We came here after we couldn't get acknowledged at Melody Lodge. What a change!! We were greeted and seated immediately, and a lovely waitress arrived in moments. She gave us great recommendations and our food came promptly. (Try the maple viniagrette and the cucumber leek viniagrette salad dressings!) Our food was great, and we were even checked on by the owner who couldn't have been nicer or more genuine. We stuffed ourselves with blueberry pie a la mode and left very happy.

Remember you are in Speculator, NY and the atmosphere is rustic. Come enjoy a great meal at a reasonable price.

Pulling into Speculator, New York with no destination in mind, we found on the east side of the road, The Inn. With no preconceived notions we walked in, were invited to sit where we liked and were immediately served by Johnny. I asked for a milkshake, not on the menu, and Johnny said he would give it a try. Well he produced and excellent milkshake and food that was very good. This is the type of place we would love to stop at on our rural drives. So far, after 1300 miles on the road, The Inn comes up #1!

The thing I love about this area is that you do not see a single chain store or restaurant or hotel. If you need fancy and upscale you will grumble in Speculator and at the Inn at Speculator. This is a cozy spot with the traditional wood interior, fireplace, etc. we had a nice spot by the back window which gave a bit of a view, although not as spectacular was other spots around the region.

The menu is pretty vast... Lots of choices, especially fish and meat. Vegetarians will be more pressed to find happy choices. Stick to the more traditional options--of which there are plenty, and you will be fine. check your visions of high end dining at the door and you will be happy. Although we were too full for dessert ( portions are large here and I actually brought half of my dinner home--a surprise because I was really hungry after a very active day), the desert choices sounded great. Lots of fruit pies and homemade things. The kids at the large table next to us seemed to be in utterly high heaven.

My spouse, the beer guy, was bummed that their draft selection was lackluster. Why should there be Bud Lite in a region with so many outstanding local brews?

A sign there said the place is for sale... Perhaps a family giving it up? Don't know what changes will come, but hopefully they will keep it simple.

Stopped in for a quick bite while travelling. The food quality and prices were fairly average although it was nice to find a decent place to order food in what appeared to be a restaurant desert. The service was spotty as our waitress seemed more interested in socializing with her friends seated at an adjacent table than providing service. However her service improved once the table vacated the restaurant. There is an excellent view of the lake.

Stopped here for lunch while on a road trip. After the requisite photo next to the Speculator sign, we entered to find a somewhat dark setting that could use some freshening up. Place was deserted, with two other tables taken. Service was efficient and courteous. Soup of day (smoked duck and bacon) was a very pleasant surprise, the chicken wings were a nice size serving and pretty good. Friend had a flat bread sandwich that was huge and very tasty. Prices are reasonable. It was a pleasant surprise in a place that did not look so inviting to start with.
