“Best of the North Fork”
Reviewed May 2, 2008

Heron Harbor is the perfect vacation spot on the North Fork! My children and I spent two wonderful weeks last summer (Jul07) at this quiet and convenient hotel on the bay. The unit we stayed in had a full kitchen which was great since the grocery store was only ten minutes away. Several evenings we dined out at the two great restaurants within walking distance, with a perfect view of the bay.

Kate and her staff are the epitome of small town hospitality. Friendly and sincerely interested if we were enjoying our vacation while regularly ensuring that our unit was clean and well-stocked with various amenities.

I plan on staying at Heron Harbor again during my next visit and I highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to the North Fork.

Stayed here recently for one night. Got charged $50, yes $50, for getting one hand towel dirty with makeup. Would have been willing to accept a charge of $5 to replace the towel, but $50 seems downright criminal. I travel frequently throughout the country for both business and leisure purposes and have never had an experience quite like this one. On a side note, the room was overheated, the walls were paper-thin, and the hotel is situated next door to a fish market, so beware of unpleasant odors as well.

We just returned from two nights at Heron Harbor, and were very disappointed with the motel. The web site does not give an honest view of the situation. You are situated by a marina and a fish market, and you are right next to a big parking lot. You have to walk a good distance to get to the pool. For the amount of money we paid, we were surprised by the number of rules. There are signs all over the place saying they will charge you $50 if you get any makeup on the towels, and you have to check out the remote controls for the TV's (as well as ethernet cable to use the internet). It felt like we were staying at any uptight relative's house instead of an expensive motel. We would definitely not stay in this place again.

My husband and I, along with our three teenage sons, stayed for several nights at the Heron Harbor Suites in March and couldn't have been more pleased. Our two-bedroom, 1 bath suite with full kitchen and living room w/pull-out sofa-bed was newly remodeled and immaculate. Although we were there in the off-season the owners couldn't have been more gracious and accomodating. They made sure we had everything we needed. The full kitchen was great for preparing meals and saving $$ on eating out. Everything in our suite was brand new and incredible clean, and the Queen bed in the master br was very comfortable. We would not hesitate to stay at Heron Harbor Suites again.

We just left Long Island and enjoyed our stay at the Heron Harbor Suites in Southold. We have never been in Long Island and I spent countless hours trying to find a place to stay last minute on the island at the height of the summer season. The website and reviews made the size of the rooms very appealing for our family of 5. We had a two bedroom suite right next to the office, a captain's suite. The size was good for our family (with 3 children). The first bedroom had a queen size bed which was comfortable and the second bedroom had a bunk bed with a twin on top and a double on the bottom. The only problem was that the top bunk was very squeaky. We told the proprietor and she stated that it would be better if they tightened the screws. The rest of the room was adequate and comfortable. We were able to have breakfast in the room to save a few dollars. The free high speed internet was a plus. There is a pool but it is a several minute walk across a parking lot to get there. The motel is actually part of a marina and sits perched along a parking lot and next to a boat shop.

We booked our room just about two weeks before we arrived and there were very few choices when we were checking for rooms on the North Fork of Long Island. However, we ended up being satisfied with our stay because the suite was roomy and although the surroundings were not idyllic, we were close to Greenport and the ferry to the south side of the island. We took day trips easily.

The staff at the Heron Harbor were excellent. They were easily accessible and eager to help us and share information.
