“The way an inn should be”
Reviewed July 18, 2012

My girlfriend and I were looking for a relaxing weekend in the North Fork area and the Shorecrest delivered. From the moment we got there on Friday evening, Marilyn, the innkeeper, warmly welcomed. She helped us with dinner reservations that night and gave suggestions on what to do and where to go. We were traveling with "Brooklyn," our green cheeked conure (small parrot) and Marilyn was graciously accommodating in allowing us to bring her.

What stood out to me though was the breakfast Marilyn prepared and how it was laid out. There was one dining table for ten, where everyone took spots and helped themselves to what was made (Marilyn even prepared vegan dishes, knowing that my girlfriend is vegan). Making it easier to talk to the other guests, only added to the warm feeling of the Shorecrest.

The inn itself is beautiful, with a meticulously maintained garden, well appointed common areas (living room, library and sun room) and a cozy room upstairs with a great view of the Long Island Sound. The inn had plenty of magazines and books to borrow, as well as afternoon ice tea and snacks. By the door there's a candy dish that seems to never go empty.

And on Sunday, as we were about to head out, Marilyn even gave Brooklyn some fruit for the road.

In all, we had a great stay, and would definitely book again. Hopefully for a longer time!

After having read all the rave reviews about Shorecrest (and Mariyn), my boyfriend and I decided to try it out for an extended getaway. We are so happy we did. The B&B is so charming and peaceful, the rooms are nicely appointed, the gardens look as if someone painted them in. It really is everything a B&B should be--comfy beds, absolutely delicious homemade breakfast in the mornings, homemade cookies served with tea in the evening, a hammock to spend a lazy afternoon. It was my boyfriend's birthday a few days before our stay and Marilyn was so sweet to gift us with a complimentary bottle of brut rose to help us celebrate. I would highly recommend the Shorecrest and am already looking forward to our next visit!

It was as we remembered and maybe a touch more. The icing on the cake, after a stay in New York city and before the trip back across the pond, was a relaxing short stay at Shorecrest. Surrounded by an artists pallette of interior design and the loveliest gardens we've seen for a while (since we live in the land of the 'gardeners world' that's saying something) we once again enjoyed our 'chill out'; weekend. Thank you Marilyn for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home. Hopefully we will get back next year.

Shorecrest is a fabulous getaway spot. It is all a country inn should be: it is easy to get to, very comfortably elegant, homey, quiet, close to the beach and features a fabuous breakfast and irrestible baked treats. It is a terrific North Fork treasure.

Marilyn and her staff are wonderful hostesses! The house is conveniently located in wine country. The gardens are beautiful. The breakfasts were indeed gourmet! There were lovely desserts in the afternoon and coffee and tea is available when you chose to arise. I highly recommend this B&B.

And by that I mean, you cannot do better in hospitality, location, decor and food when visiting North Fork. We've been lucky guests at Shorecrest for at least 5 years, staying either in May, June or September, and sometimes more than once if we're extra fortunate. We're loyal repeaters because of the warm welcome and friendly professionalism that's hard to find elsewhere. And the garden! It's just a thrill to see what the proprietor has done in a year to make her front lawn garden even more spectacular than last season. The house is enviously decorated with gorgeous antiques, artwork, books and furniture that shows a real talent and passion for home design without fussiness. Rooms are not huge -- these old homes weren't built like McMansions -- but super fun to relax in with modern, very clean bathrooms. We're partial to the Silk Room, but have stayed in just about every room in the house. We've also noticed that the energy is always good here -- guests here tend to be really nice, laid back and courteous. Breakfast is always a treat with delicious, freshly baked savory and sweet dishes served on gorgeous vintage table settings. We also love how our rooms are freshened up while we're having breakfast - so thoughtful and smart.

Just came back from a wonderful long weekend celebrating our anniversary in the LI winery country. Shorecrest and the gracious hostess Marilyn could not have been better. Centrally located between Greenport , beaches ( 500 ft away!) and a variety of farm stand and vineyards, Shorecrest was definitely the perfect choice in accommodations. Marilyn was friendly and really made an effort to make the guest feel at home. The inn was immaculate and the home made breakfast ( her baked french toast was reason to stay alone! ) was delicious. There is plenty of space to sit ( including a large hammock ) and relax in the beautiful gardens surrounding the property. I am definitely booking my reservations for the fall. Enjoy! Sean and Connie, MA

Room Tip: We stayed in the East room with a nice view of LI sound.
