Since we live in Italy I am used to the attitude when in the country.
However, I was surprised to find that the Italians who own and work at Sant Ambroeus had not really adapted to US customer service standards sunce their opening in 1992.
The food is quite good. But nothing out of this world. The decor is outdated and the patio follows the Michael Kors store window...not excited about eating while people are shopping and staring out at tables.
They do serve the best coffee in town, and have real Italian gelato. Lovely pastries.
I would however recommend the owner not say out loud that it is wrong to order a take away cappuccino. If one makes the effort to communicate, as a store owner, a smile and a polite answer would suffice.
People in town work and don't have time to "stay at the counter as they should" (I quote). They should be a bit more friendly and less obnoxious because, after all, there is a much better Italian in town...with a much more interesting and private patio, and with a true Italian-ista owner. Just saying...
