We specifically went to eat here because they advertised authentic German food. We came during lunch and were seated at a table in the back. The atmosphere is dim and cozy. There are a variety of dishes to select from and we had the Bratwurst (with kraut) and the Weinerschnitzel. My boyfriend, who is from Germany, said that the food was pretty good and close to what he had at home. The portions are large and come with potato and soup/salad side dish. They offer a full bar and desserts. The price is on the expensive side, but you are in the Hamptons.

Great selection of beer and German foods. Nice atmosphere. Filet, while a good cut of meat, was greatly overcooked (med rare = med well, apparently). Rest of the food was quite good. Bartender was surly. I would give it another try, however.

A staple in Southampton.
Has been around a long time.
Been going there for many years.
Dated atmosphere but friendly and attentive staff.
A good fall/winter restaurant.
Dark interior....
Food is hit or miss.

My wife and I visited Shippy's after spending the day with family in Southampton. Well, Shippy's seems to be a small niche German bar that serves beer to regulars
( and food if asked to )
That being said,we had no issues with the service- as for the food, was just ok. Having little to no experience with old world Bavarian style cooking we found our meals eatable.
Not much else to say.
Also tried the French onion soup..it was good.
The staff was pleasant. Pricewise, a little expensive for the venue overall, but being the niche that it is,
attracting far less of the lions share, prices have to be high to make a living. Would we return? Would consider- if the place underwent a face lift & hired an actual trained Bavarian Chef.
