We tried Javier's Cafe on a whim as we saw it opened where Luso used to be. After reading some other reviews and noting a former Maureen's chef had struck out on his own we were anxious to try it. Based on one visit....a winner. Menu very reminiscent of Maureen's, food quality was really, really good and there was no wait on a Sunday morning around 8:00 (typical wait at MK is around 30 minutes).
My wife had her favorite: Eggs Benedict. Silky yolk, thick slice of canadian bacon and an awesome hollandaise on a huge english muffin. She asked (as always) for crisp homefries and they did not disappoint. I had "my" usual of two eggs over corned beef hash. I'm somewhat picky with this dish: eggs over easy, hash and homefries crisp, rye toast dark with butter on the side. All came out exactly as I wanted it.
What to try next time? The french toast looked awesome as did the pancakes. Many "stuffed" varieties.
Lunch items looked to be interesting and we'll have to take a visit for that as well.
All in all, a really good place for some great breakfast, little to no wait and they take debit cards (no credit). Worth a try.

We hear the chefs used to work at Maureen's, and decided to see how the transition was taking place. (We'd eaten a few times at Maureen's. Food good, but as Yogi Berra says, "No one goes there anymore, it's too crowded." We agree). Anyway, cholesterol aside, the menu for breakfast has the standard fare of omelettes, pancakes and eggs any style. The specials board varies the offerings each week. I tried the shrimp and avocado omelette and had absolutely no regrets. There's usually a wait after 9 am, so we try to go there early and sit outdoors in the back (while the weather is still decent). I've read some not-so-positive reviews about Javier's on Trip Advisor and I am willing to give this place the benefit of the doubt and keep on dining here; not that we've ever had a bad experience, more in rebuttal to those other comments. I'm going along with what Yogi said until I am convinced otherwise.

We went to Javier's on Labor Day, waited 45 minutes after being told 25-30 and we gave up and left. This morning we gave it another try and were seated in 15 minutes after being told 5. There were, however, empty tables when we were told there was a wait. They have no idea how to manage a dining room. Making people wait for the sake of waiting is not good. It doesn't create a demand, it ticks people off. They also put two people at tables for 5-6.

Once seated the service was friendly and prompt and the food was excellent. Bottom line is very nice but not worth a wait over 15 minutes or so.

Javier's tries a little bit too hard. In direct competition with the very popular Maureen's Kitchen, it is only open for breakfast and lunch (6AM to 3PM). The fare is high caloric and enough cholesterol is served to keep heart specialists in business for decades to come. A touch of "Northern California" would be welcome with some more sensible menu options. Still, the peach filled French toast is a tasty once-in-a-lifetime novelty. The portion was much too large, though. Just half that size, with perhaps a small slice of melon to go with it would be more to my liking. This is not a simple, Mom & Pop breakfast place. Very noisy under the tin ceiling. Our table was placed up against the front of the bar. Probably the last time we'll visit.

This is the perfect place for a special breakfast or lunch. It's a cut above the rest and a place we take family and friends who visit. Every menu item is a crowd pleaser and we are determined to eat our way through the entire menu. Pancakes and French Toast are all elegantly prepared and served. Eggs come to your table in a myriad of presentations, all pleasant surprises. Lunch (IMHP) is even better. Five stars means a lot, but for what this restaurant does (they close at 3 PM - no dinner service), it is among the best. There is also a great outdoor dining area behind the restaurant where there is also parking.
