“Great place to stay; great view.”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

We had a lovely, comfortable room on the third floor with a balcony over looking the lake. One night, we had dinner on the balcony. Very enjoyable, very comfortable furniture with a wonderful view. We kept the balcony door open when we were in the room for fresh air - a hotel treat. Even though they are on the highway that runs through town, it's pretty quiet at night and during the day, it's a fun community watching spot. A nice, fun town to walk in and enjoy the shops, parks and lake.

Room 308 has a nice view between the trees.

We have been traveling for 3 weeks plus by the time we reached this grand place. We tried for the main sherwood inn but all the rooms were taken, in the end this was the better choice for us, more updated. It is a short walk to the main hotel and the good dinning there along with the morning breakfast. Of the month long trip from The Southwest to the South and up to this region, the beds here were the best we have every stayed in. There is plenty of parking down below. Lovely view of the lake, what a great place. We hope to come back some day.

Room Tip: The obvious choice is any room facing the lake, you will love the view and the exterior seating

The hotel is beautiful, location is ideal. We had no problem at check in at Sherwood, and parking was easy with the parking garage under the hotel. Check in is 3, check out 11. You can park on the street to check in at Sherwood, as you will be directed to the parking garage after you have checked in and given a card for your dash.

My only disappointment was the "lake view" room. I booked the room online, and knew I was looking for a balcony room. I chose Room 310, which has a balcony. I was looking forward to sitting on the balcony enjoying the view of the lake, but was disappointed when we opened the door to the room and we could see a large tree outside the window, blocking the view of the lake.

I am writing this review in October, so the tree has lost a good number of its leaves. We could peek the lake through the leaves. I can only imagine in the summer that the lake would not be viewable at all from this room.

I am only mentioning this because I particularly booked this room for the view of the lake, and was disappointed. Just be aware of that when choosing your room, if you are choosing those on the lake side.

Other than that, it is an ideal location and walking distance to everything in the village.

Room Tip: Be aware that there is a tree growing in the front of the building that blocks the lake view for the...

The Packwood House is a sister property of the Sherwood Inn right down the street. We read the reviews and chose this property due to comments and the more modern look of the amenities, as opposed to the more historical Sherwood Inn. And the only reason we chose modern over the old style inn was that we often stay in an old inn in Lancaster County. We made our own reservations, Nancy at the desk was more than helpful, what a pleasant lady to deal with. She filled us in on Seafood Musicfest that would be going on at The Sherwood Inn, and suggested we arrive in time for it and check in at The Sherwood to get our parking pass, so we wouldn't be bothered about finding a place to park. When we arrived at The Sherwood Inn for register for our parking pass, we were greeted at the desk by Nancy as well as Margaret. Again, both are very personable. But the best was yet to come. Since Nancy and I had chatted on the phone about this trip being anniversary celebration, she informed us that she had upgraded our room and that we would be pleasantly surprised when we checked in at 3:00. Well that was an understatement! Our room was 308 which is on the top floor (they have an elevator), left corner unit, when looking at the building from the front. The room was long and spacious but the best part - French doors opening onto a nice sized patio and the most beautiful view of the gazebo and Lake Skaneateles. Our room had a kitchenette in the middle, the bathroom was good size with both a standup shower and a jetted tub. We couldn't thank Nancy enough for this upgrade. What's a little strange about this building is that the rooms are over the top of a Talbot's Clothing Store, but don't let that deter you. You have a private side entrance, only accessible via your room key card, and an elevator to the room above, or (and this was a great plus), to the underground parking garage. The garage is accessible from either the street or the elevator inside the building. And again, you can only access the garage elevator using your room key card. There is a continental breakfast in the Sherwood Inn, which is about a 2 minute walk. They do put out some coffee in the Packwood House on the 2nd floor, but nothing like what is available at The Sherwood Inn. As far as location, probably the best in town. The crosswalk is right in front of the Packwood House, where you can cross for the gazebo or the boat cruises. The Bluewater Grill is right across the street as well. And if you'd really like a new outfit, there is Talbot's right downstairs! Another FYI, there is no staff in this building, they are all located at the Sherwood House. This was not an issue for us. Another helpful staff member was Lucinda. She gave us some good info and a map of some places to checkout. In closing, this will always be a first choice while staying in Skaneateles and if you need some good information, see Nancy, Margaret or Lucinda at The Sherwood Inn. They are the best!

Room Tip: For the best overall view, ask for Room 308.

Stayed here for a wedding. this property is the "sister" property of the sherwood hotel which is basically next door so you check in at the Sherwood. the packwood is just rooms no lobby and no restaurant . if yo are visiting this quiet little town you cant beat the location , walking distance to restaurants, shopping and lake access is across the street. about 20-25 min drive from SYR int airport I recommend renting a car as it is much cheaper than the $90 each way cab ride/

This hotel is s group of rooms associated with the Sherwood Inn 2 buildings away on the same side of the street. The accommodations are first class with all new furnishings. While it does not have the charm of the 1807 Sherwood Inn, it is more comfortable with new furnishings and larger room. The free breakfast is available at the Sherwood. Great location - directly across from the town park / beach and a very comfortable walking distance from the town shops.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the lake side - 3rd floor - great views of the lake
