The Packwood House is a sister property of the Sherwood Inn right down the street. We read the reviews and chose this property due to comments and the more modern look of the amenities, as opposed to the more historical Sherwood Inn. And the only reason we chose modern over the old style inn was that we often stay in an old inn in Lancaster County. We made our own reservations, Nancy at the desk was more than helpful, what a pleasant lady to deal with. She filled us in on Seafood Musicfest that would be going on at The Sherwood Inn, and suggested we arrive in time for it and check in at The Sherwood to get our parking pass, so we wouldn't be bothered about finding a place to park. When we arrived at The Sherwood Inn for register for our parking pass, we were greeted at the desk by Nancy as well as Margaret. Again, both are very personable. But the best was yet to come. Since Nancy and I had chatted on the phone about this trip being anniversary celebration, she informed us that she had upgraded our room and that we would be pleasantly surprised when we checked in at 3:00. Well that was an understatement! Our room was 308 which is on the top floor (they have an elevator), left corner unit, when looking at the building from the front. The room was long and spacious but the best part - French doors opening onto a nice sized patio and the most beautiful view of the gazebo and Lake Skaneateles. Our room had a kitchenette in the middle, the bathroom was good size with both a standup shower and a jetted tub. We couldn't thank Nancy enough for this upgrade. What's a little strange about this building is that the rooms are over the top of a Talbot's Clothing Store, but don't let that deter you. You have a private side entrance, only accessible via your room key card, and an elevator to the room above, or (and this was a great plus), to the underground parking garage. The garage is accessible from either the street or the elevator inside the building. And again, you can only access the garage elevator using your room key card. There is a continental breakfast in the Sherwood Inn, which is about a 2 minute walk. They do put out some coffee in the Packwood House on the 2nd floor, but nothing like what is available at The Sherwood Inn. As far as location, probably the best in town. The crosswalk is right in front of the Packwood House, where you can cross for the gazebo or the boat cruises. The Bluewater Grill is right across the street as well. And if you'd really like a new outfit, there is Talbot's right downstairs! Another FYI, there is no staff in this building, they are all located at the Sherwood House. This was not an issue for us. Another helpful staff member was Lucinda. She gave us some good info and a map of some places to checkout. In closing, this will always be a first choice while staying in Skaneateles and if you need some good information, see Nancy, Margaret or Lucinda at The Sherwood Inn. They are the best!
