Historical hotel stay. We've stayed here many times and it seems like some rooms are extremely worn and some are just remodeled. Always very clean and service is helpful and professional. Weekends have local talent trying to sing in the tavern so beware if you have a room above the tavern and you go to bed early.
Complimentary breakfast is acceptable and seems similar to what the Hampton Inns offer. The breakfast staff gas never been proactive in helping you upon entering and leaving. dog eat dog.

We enjoyed dinner last night at The Sherwood Inn in Skaneateles New York. We had friends in from out of town and thought they would like to dine there and did they ever. The food and service met every expectation.

This is a 200 year old inn with all the charm you could hope for. It has been amazingly well maintained and is stocked with paintings and antique carpets. It is situated across the main street from the most beautiful of the dozen finger lakes - Skaneateles Lake. Rooms are well appointed. Restaurant and tavern downstairs offer many choices and wine list is decent enough. During the winter -- the wood burning fireplaces are kept stoked. What a wonderful place to relax. Only thing that could be improved upon -- the gift shop -- has cheap jewelry and not a souvenir in sight.

Arrived on a Friday in April- room was ready, clean and nice. Fireplace worked great, cracked a window for fresh air. Had a great dinner for 4 at the Inn- it was superb and reasonable. Enjoyed a few drinks in the bar afterward- very cozy.
The continental breafast the next morning was included and it was azwesome! Croissants, scrambled eggs, homefries, sliced ham, cheese, fruit, yogurt, granola, scones, OJ and coffee were all good. Hit the spot! The bakery (La Pattiserie) out behind the Inn make the croissants and granola and are fab. Check it out for coffee and breadds and cookies too!
All in all, this place is a nice getaway on the lake. Would return in a heartbeat!

We booked 2 nights here for what we hoped would be a relaxing anniversery weekend. The hotel is very charming and every staff member we encountered was very nice and pleasent. Unfortunatly, the hotel itself left a lot to be desired...

The first problem was NOWHERE to park. The lot they have behind the Inn was full with restaurant patrons. No reserved parking for hotel guests, and parking on the street is metered, and they DO ticket.

Next, NO ELEVATOR. Our room was on the 3rd floor. This hotel is not handicap accesible, and it does not state this on the website. We are not handicap, but can just imagine showing up there with our elderly parents or anyone who could not climb stairs.

The room was cozy and decorated pretty. But, nothing like the pictures on the website. Clearly a wide angle lens was used for those photos! The room included a fireplace (gas) which did not work. We had maintenance in the room 3 different times. Finally the last guy was kind enough to tell us a valve was bad and just don't use it.

The bathroom had a very nice jacuzzi tub which was wonderful!

We were not able to enjoy the restaurant and bar area. We were told that there were 2 parties going on, and they should be clearing out soon! The entire bar and lobby area was jam packed with people standing and waiting for tables. After several trips up and down the stairs, we decided to go across the street to a different restaurant.

The room was comfortable, and the halls were quiet for the most part.

Upon check out we were given $50 off our bill because of the fireplace not working. That was greatly appreciated. But, looking back at the whole weekend, I think we would have been just as comfortable in a Holiday Inn for half the price.

Once again, the STAFF here was very good. This Inn is NOT owner operated. It is "managed" by a group that manages several properties in the area. Maybe the owners should be more involved and not just rake in the $$$$.
