This motel, on Route 20, is in a perfect location. It's a short drive into Skaneateles, where you can walk around easily. The resident Lab is always ready to greet you and even play fetch. Accommodations are comfortable, and the staff is accommodating.

On the strength of a suggestion at the N.Y State Welcome Centre at Canadian border we decided on the spur of the moment to make an overnight stop in Skaneateles: a charming town we will be happy to revisit but not to stay at the Birds Nest Motel. The lock on our unit was defective making it extremely difficult to open or close the door, the room was freezing (the thermomenter dipped but the heat is not turned on until October lst), the standard amenities listed in the full page ad -- hair dryer, coffee maker etc -- were non-existent in the room and when queried on these discrepancies, the manager was both defensive and unhelpful. Too bad the motel does not live up to its billing or attractive location.

If you like cockroachs and Poop this is the place for you. The abrasive, very rude owner, Robert Evans, makes your stay very uncomfortable. Its amasing he has any guests stay a second night. They have a dog who lives on the property, but the management doesn't clean up after the dog reliefs himself. There are more cockroachs here, then I would care to see again. Do yourself a favor and drive ten minutes down the road and stay at the Holiday Inn in Auburn. Cheape,r cleaner and professional management.

Birds Nest Motel was highly recommended for its price and convenient location. The property was quite cute, but casually managed and not properly cleaned and maintained! We have never been so disappointed by a travel experience like this. We suffered from headaches and respiratory distress as a result of our severe allergic reaction to the allergens in that dirty room we were given!

Here's our story-- We arrived after an exhausting 6+ hour drive around 9:30 p.m. We were told that the check-in desk closed at 10 p.m. By the time we arrived, the room assigned to us was not only the last one available of its type, but it also seemed like it had just been "taken out of winter storage" and had not been vacuumed and cleaned properly. Moreover, the sink and shower drains were plugged and backing up---(I found myself standing in 2-3" of water while showering!) To make matters even worse, the A/C unit was spewing mildew and mold; the carpet had not been vacuumed; and we even found some bits of rubbish under the bed covers! Since the walls were thin, we could also hear what was going on in the rooms next to ours! The "straw that broke the camel's back" was when we tried to open the screened windows for a breath of fresh air and found the crank shaft broken. Then we couldn't even lock and bolt our front door because someone had broken one of the bolt shafts!

Unfortunately for us no one was at the front desk after 10 p.m. (unlike normal hotels!) so we were stuck for the night. Needless to say, our wellbeing and relaxation were totally compromised. To make matters worse, we were stuck with a two-nights-minimum-stay requirement and didn't have the option of finding more comfortable lodging even if we had wanted..

The next morning when we registered our complaints about the repairs that needed to be done and the dirty conditions, the manager didn't have the business savvy to apologize for our inconvenience, nor did he even offer to negotiate a fair refund to make our stay better. We got the cold shoulder for complaining! Thank goodness they did fix the plugged drains and vacuum the dirty floors! All of which should have been done in the first place and not as a result of our complaint! But the broken window shaft and door bolt weren't important enough to have been fixed. Luckily, we have since found other more reliable and worthwhile places to stay in the Skaneateles area!

Spent five nights ...very pleasant....and peaceful
Family and friends occupied over half the rooms, as we were celebrating a wedding, and the vast front lawn was a great meeting place.
Simple and comfortable........not a chain

my dad died and we had to go back for the funeral. The Bird's Nest owner "bent over " backwards to help us with any thing. The dog was sweet and great therapy.I didn't care about the a/c as much under the circumstances, nor the sounds from the other rooms.Yes the showers watch your head.I stubbed my toe on the division between the room and the shower stall. Not alot of room but it did the job for our purposes. It was raining and sticky , typical NY weather...but I enjoyed our stay under the circumstances.
