We stayed here for a few nights over July 4th weekend since it impossible to find a rental for less than 1 week or even 2. This is a clean, small boutique hotel in Shelter Island Heights. It is a 2 minute drive to Sunset Beach, I would not recommend walking for families (anyone with small children) The room we stayed in was clean and decent for a family of 4. I believe they only have 1 family room (it was in a cottage separate from the main hotel so you have to walk outside to get to it) and 1 cottage to accomodate families so most of the other guests are adults/ couples/ empty nesters. Some of the guests (on romantic weekends or older singles) seemed to be bothered by little kids so I would not recommend this hotel for very small children/ babies. The mood here is serene. However if your kids are relatively calm, it is a nice relaxing place to stay. They serve pastries and coffee in the lobby in the morning but there is no real "breakfast"/ no tables to eat at only the lobby couch. There is a restaurant downstairs but we did not try it out, since it seemed to be more adult than family friendly.

Also, just a warning there are a lot of bugs in the hotel/by the pool/ in shelter island in general... there was even a frog in the pool.

Last week we took a quick getaway "Out East"
to the Hamptons, Montauk, Shelter Island and a few requisite vineyards along the way.
All was wonderful. Charming, yummy and Giant Fall Days.
Our best experience was our stay on Shelter Island at the Shelter Island House.
Soo good we stayed an extra night!
Suzanne had a fire in the fireplace, afternoon tea/wine and a charcuterie platter set out for guests. She was amazing offering low key hospitality, great restaurant recommendations and interesting notes of history re Shelter Island and The SHELTER ISLAND HOUSE.
Suzanne has restored the Inn to a warm, beautiful and welcoming hidden hideaway on Shelter Island.
Another fabulous touch was our Continental Breakfast set out each morning by the warm and wonderful Amaryllis... each morning we had the most delicious assortment of croissants and pots of steaming coffee. YUMMY
I write this not only as a seasoned traveler...I write this with the greatest respect for the Inn Keeper/Owner, Suzanne, as one who has owned and run a Historical Inn I know the work and details which go into making an Inn memorable.

Extremely expensive!!!! Staff is very nice. Pool is great but staff does not pick up towels and left out in rain, etc., still wet in am. "Breakfast" is a joke. 4 day stay and same minimal pastries, each day. No coffee available until 8:30 am. Great location for our needs. Due to cost, will not be a choice again.

Had an amazing time at the shelter island house. The accommodations were top notch. The pool was refreshing and the staff was accommodating. We went for a quick weekday getaway and it was just what we needed. We also ate at Caci in the hotel. Food was superb and fresh. I highly recommend both! We will be coming back each year for sure.

Such an incredible stay in the most quaint boutique hotel in a place I feel in love with years ago. The grounds are gorgeous, the rooms so chic and clean and the staff incredibly kind. Loved the amenities. Pool, small breakfast, fire pit and walking distance to the beach. Best perk, the new restaurant Caci on premises. Had the most delicious salad, burrata and truffle fries. It's nice after so many years visiting the island, finding some place fresh and new and updated! Will be back.
