Wow.....I have been to St Tropez and St Barths several times and have never seen a place in the USA to match the ambience/food/service of the restaurants and hotels in these places..........well at least that was the case until my wife and I visited Sunset Beach.......it is our slice of the Cote d'azur.....Merci

This is by far the best hidden secret America has to offer. The super chic hotel is everything you would want and more. The staff is lovely and extremely accomodating. The restaurtant is filled with gorgeous people and the food goes along with it. I have already booked my stay for next year.

This place, advertised as a St Bart's type resort, is nothing more than a renovated motel. The rooms are musty, unclean and poorly ventilated. My husband and I were surprised that we could hear guests in the next room as though they were staying with us. The location is nice, right across the street from a beach, although we thought that the motel was going to be right on the beach. You can expect to pay Palm Beach prices for Atlantic City grade lodgings. The staff was big on attitude, as were other guests. We noticed that there were people from New Jersey and Staten Island who come regularly, and from the looks of it, want to hob-nob with hip urban types. There is a restaurant on the road with the same name--the prices are exorbitant, the menu is written in a supposedly chic European scrawl that is barely legible, and the waitstaff is more interested in being seen strutting in front of the crowd that stands in front of the restaurant on a road-side strip. If we hadn't paid so much to stay here, it would have been an interesting study of human behavior. For us, next time we'll read reviews more carefully and head for a more subdued spot.

My husband and I stayed here for a few nights in August for what we hoped would be a romantic getaway. The room was small, with sparse furnishings that were obviously meant to be stylish, but were more realistically worn and cheap. The employees had a non-chalant air and seemed more interested in socializing amongst themselves than assisting guests. There is a trendy restaurant on the premises, and it was clear that the employees were geared more toward that than the motel. The other guests at the motel were, it seemed, a combination of wannabees in trendy clothes and narrow-framed glasses, flip-flops and hair gel, and other victims like us. We tried the restaurant and although the setting is pretty, it was dirty (the tabletop was smelly like old wash-cloths and the flatware had flecks of old food on it), the service was some of the worst we could recall in years--especially at an establishment with these kind of prices, and the food is mediocre at best. My husband lost his appetite when an employee unfolded a table on the sand and began to massage a man in a speedo thong on the beach, from head to the tip of his toe. That exemplifies the place: vulgar, expensive and inconsiderate. There was nothing, except the location, that we would ever recommend.

We were at Sunset Beach when it opened. It was still a secret, and we had such a fabulous time we thought we'd go back for a romanctic weekend this year (July 2004). If you want to be surrounded by wanna-bee Hampton sophisticates who are thinly disguised frat boys and girls looking to swallow as much alcohol as dad's credit card will allow, this is the place for you. The bar is expensive and poorly serviced. I had to yell at the top of my lungs to my husband so he could hear my drink order. Our visions of a romantic tete-a-tete was more like trying to carry on a conversation in a mosh pit. And if your driving a rental, please be sure to take out full insurance. We received a 'complimentatry' ding in our car that no one would take responsiblity for. This place is about as fresh and inviting as three day old fish.

This place had to be the biggest disappointment I have had in a trip. After reading all the hype about the fashionistas and celebs that have frequented this hotel, we planned a stay. The room was over $300/night and was nothing more than a drab re-do of a 1960's motel. The location is nice, but the water is without a real tide, so no waves. We went during the summer, and there were alot of people, a real scene, at the restaurant at the hotel, which was very expensive, with horrendous service with an attitude and the food was only okay. It seemed like everyone there wanted to be seen, but by whom?? Most of the patrons we saw were what appeared to be suburbanites and alot of Paris Hilton wannabees. We liked the island--the people were nice, but the hotel we found out is not very well liked by residents. There is certainly night life here, alot of South Beach types--drinking, vomiting etc. a real contrast to the area. Overall, a really bad experience--the attitude from the hotel personnel and patrons alike was very offputting and we felt like we got nothing for all the money spent--not even a thank you on the way out.

Just came back from an attempted weekend stay at this property. Our expectations were high as we heard that it was an "it" spot for those who wanted a hamptons weekend. The restaurant was filled with beautiful people and the room upon entering fely like a scaled down Mondrian/Delano. It was definitely "motel-y" but we were pretty flexible given that we were planning on spending not so much time in the room itself. Arrived late evening, and after dinner decided we wanted to shower up. That's when the fun began. Yellow water in the bath and sink, which we were told was pretty much "standard fare." Poor drainage in the tub. But worst of all was the fact that there was some sort of leakage in the floor which effectively left a substantial amount of the rug soaked. By the morning, the water had spread from the bathroom to the bed area so badly that the bed skirt itself was soaked a good foot up (and the fact that it was soaked with yellow water made for a terribly unnatractive picture, as you might imagine)! We spent the afternoon seeing the sights on the Hamptons hoping that there would be some resolution upon our return. We returned to fing the toilet broken, breaking the camel's back. Unfortunately, the manager could not get us another room, as the place was fully committed, and it seemed that nothing could be done about the water. Of course there was no way we were going to stay in a small room with a wet carpet and increasingly mildewy smell for over $300 a night so we asked them to find us another hotel, which they did. While the staff and the manager all were nice people and appeared quite embarrassed, it was still easily the worst hotel experince I have ever had. I cannot recommend this place to anyone, particularly given the price, and would urge you all to stay at a bed and breakfast somewhere else in the area and come check out the "scene" at the restaurant/bar separartely. Be prepared for $12 mojitos when you do.
