This was an awesome nature preserve. In terms of difficulty this hike is somewhere between a nature walk and a moderate hike. On a hot day, it is more difficult! There are a bunch of different terrains: wooded forest, fields with butterflies, and walking along the water. We only made it up until the green path and turned around but there are very clear paths and a lot of land to walk. Would recommend spending time in this nature. Definitely a good hike for kids given the overall flatness.

Check opening hours first. Arriving they a bit to late, the ranger was of a great help to select where I should go. This is heaven and my only regret is that I was enable to spend more time there for the whole tour of the reserve. Impossible to loose yourself. Well done and such a beauty. Love it.

Be sure to use bug spray before getting on the trails and check for ticks when you're done. It's a great place to take advantage of a number of trails from 1 mile to 10 miles. Always a treat as it's not crowded and the scenery is lovely.

Shelter Island is a nice place: quiet and green and beautiful beaches and seems far away from the madding...car queues of East Hampton!
Loved the nature and the walks but more than anything else the quietness if the place. Wonderful!

If you like a variety of hiking, then this is a great place to go. Luckily, I do so it worked out well. The trails are well maintained and you can see a lot of animals along the yellow trail. Did not do one of the longer trails due to the weather being wet and possibility of more heavy rain. The staff is helpful with what might be seen and which trails are better based on the weather that day.
